My 1995 Whirlpool over range Microwave just stopped working all of a sudden. Model: MH6110XBQ. Being 17+ yrs old should I just replace it?

There was almost a fire in it 2 months ago. I dont know if this has effected this situation or not. It has seemed to work perfectly fine before and since then. Power cord is fine. Circuit breaker is fine. Just simply no power. I used it this morning to heat up my coffee.

At 17 years old, replacement would be appropriate.

SOURCE: microwave stopped working

Generally, you get something unless the fuse inside is blown. There is generally a fuse inside the unit when you remove the button package. First, make sure that the outlet you have is good. Plug something else into it and see that it works.

SOURCE: GEJE2160 Stop Working

It probably blew the main power fuse in side the oven. This may have happen because of a failure in the microwave or a line voltage surge or what ever. Repalce the fuse and see if it work. be sure to unplug it before doing this, If this does not fix it then you have a failure in the oven some were.
good luck

SOURCE: microwave won't heat

Sorry my Clarification Request came out as a single blob of a paragraph.

That's not how I typed it. I never write that way!

So I've pasted it here, but as a solution.

Magnetrons generally should last about 2000 hours, but several factors can shorten that.

If it's not OVER ten years old (from the purchase date or the date on the tag inside the unit) then the magnetron is still under warranty.

From the owner's manual:

"For the second through the tenth year from the date of original purchase

"The magnetron tube, if the magnetron tube fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. During this nine-year limited warranty, you will be responsible for any labor or in-home service costs.

"For the above limited warranty: To avoid any trip charges, you must take the microwave oven to a
General Electric Customer Care® servicer and pick it up following service. In-home service is also
available, but you must pay for the service technician’s travel costs to your home."

GE Customer Service is here, and you can verify the warranty status and find your nearest authorized servicer.

If you're sure the magnetron's bad, it's still under warranty, and you or a friend are handy, they will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832.

Be persistent. You may have to speak with a supervisor.

It does sound like the magnetron overheated and the magnetron's thermostat opened until it cooled down.

An overheating magnetron can be due to:

  • operating oven without cover(s) in place
  • wrong magnetron installed in oven
  • an old or otherwise failing magnetron
  • cracked magnetron magnet
  • improper power line voltage (should be 110-125VAC)
  • foods low in moisture (popcorn & bacon, e.g. - add 1/2 cup of water in rear oven)
  • failed or inoperable cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan
  • deteriorating foam weatherstripping seals in air ducts or on outside cover
  • blocked air vents (dust, animal nest debris, insufficient free air space behind & around oven, etc.)
  • clogged or greasy charcoal filter or grease filter
  • blocked duct in hood vent exhaust
Since yours is a counter top model, there are less of those factors to worry about.

When you hit Start to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts if needed by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

SOURCE: LG Microwave LMVM2055ST Just stopped working!

It has probably had an overhesat problem and the repair is quite simple. First you must remove the cover. This will require the removal of alot of scres on top, bottom and rear of machine. Once done, looking down at the top of the microwave all the way to the left about half way from the front to the rear you will see a round senso with two black wires going to it. This issimilar to a fuse and when you remove it, you can test it with a continuity testor. Electric should flow through it with no resitance. If it does not, it must nbe replaced. It's about ten bucks.

SOURCE: My panasonic over the range microwave model

I have same problem. Disconnect the power. Take the 3 screws out of the top of vented front thus exposing 2 screws that hold down the touch pad .remove them and move touch pad out of the front and out of the way. on the extreme top right within the compartment there is a circuit board that has a fuse on it. replace the fuse and try to restart the microwave. if the fuse blows again you have a major problem probably the magnetron. I have GE Profile microwave model PVM1870SM1SS and last week while running, suddently it shut off. There is no power, display buttons and stopped running. Please advise.

From the description a major part has failed, the magnetron is suspect because it suddenly shut down in cycle, if the unit is less than 7 years old it probably has a inverter board and tends to fail, also there is the possibility the keypad control board has stopped working. The microwave in my opinion is worth getting checked out and repaired, but it will be expensive.

My Microwave suddenly stopped working. Is there any set up or quickfix I can do. I am not seeing any visible problem as such but heat is not working. MH6110xbq-6 Thanks

Unplug it and take off the cover. If it has a ceramic fuse, it could have gone out. If so, replace it with the SAME model/type of fuse.

Whirlpool rangge radiant element stopped working

It may be a bad element, a bad control switch or a bad infinite switch.

There should be a technical sheet on the back or inside of the oven. Or you can find it here.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

Microwave stopped heating

I had the same oven for one and a half years and had the same problem. Had the sears repairman come out and he said the magnetron burned out and needed replacing for $285. It was never under warranty with the warranty that came with oven. I couldn't believe it! We had an independent repairman look at it and he found a design flaw that causes the magnetron to blow. If you replace the matnetron (megnatron?) it will work for awhile, maybe, but then just need to be replaced again. It's cheaper to buy a new microwave. In fact, I got out our old microwave that's over 20 yrs. old and still works--just isn't as fast and as new ovens. Good luck!

Turntable has suddenly stopped working.

The turntable motor may be bad, if you've confirmed the switch is working. The motor is located under the bottom of the microwave and has the shaft penetrating through the bottom of the oven cavity with a drive coupler attached. The coupler is what drives the glass carousel tray. The motor can be accessed by unplugging the microwave and removing the bottom panel screws. The motor is held in by a couple of screws and two connecting wires. The coupler will lift up and pull off the motor shaft from inside the oven.

You can view this part and exploded view diagrams of your microwave at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Magnetron and Air Flow" heading for item 6 (part number AP 3119645).

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
