I have a Panasonic Tx l37S10B tv set, & a PanasonicDVD recorder,DMR-EX768EB. To ensure I receive true HD i have bought a Humax Fox T2 hd Digital receiver. I use these items to receive & record HD...

Hi,

You didn't fully expain how each device is connected to the others. I don't think you have this set up correctly. Your DVD cannot record in HD so there is no point sending an HD signal to it - it can't process it. This is how I would set it up:

1. Install a 2-way splitter on the input cable
2. Connect output 1 from the splitter to the Humax receiver
3. Connect the Humax receiver to the TV with an HDMI cable
4. Connect output 2 from the splitter to the DVD
5. Connect the DVD to the TV with SCART cable.

This will enable you to watch HDTV via the digital receiver and also provide an input from source (dish/cable) to your DVD player so that you can record.

If you've already set it up this way then it should work. I suspect you've connected the Humax to the DVD and TV and also the DVD to the TV.

Please try this setup and post back if you need further assistance.

Sony rdr vx410 dvd player playing some dvds in black and white

  • DVD's are standard definition video sources. Number of lines output is 576 lines, whereas your HD TV set has 720 or 1080 lines. This difference may result in a poorer image. However some DVD players are able to “upscale” picture to obtain a very good picture. Check if your DVD player has the following connectors: YUV, DVI or HDMI. For more information, refer to the instruction manual of your DVD player.

  • Some HDMI or DVI featured DVD players also have an internal processor that can upscale pictures from a DVD to 720 or 1080 lines to provide an excellent picture from a standard definition disc to your HD TV set. Those settings are available from the setup menu of your DVD player. Please refer to the instruction manual of your DVD player.

  • If your DVD player does not have those connectors and only has a SCART connector, or S-VIDEO, or composite, there is not much to do to improve the picture quality. Just make sure that you are not using the cheapest cables and that the picture settings of your TV set are correctly adjusted.

  • Some high end TV sets have a picture improvement engine that can soften a noisy image. Make sure that it is activated from the setup menu of your TV set. Please refer to the instruction manual of your TV set.

  • If people and objects have weird white outlines around them. This may suggest that your TV sharpness is set too high. Make the correct sharpness adjustments from the setup menu of your TV set.

  • Make sure you use good quality cables and that your cables are not too long (less than 5 meters long).

Hookup wrong? I can't get the menu to come up for the VR375

New HD tv. Have digital cable box connected to tv., cable box connected to DVD recorder, but can't get setup menu to come up on tv screen. I had a similar problem. I have a HD tv connected to a digital cable box. I hooked up the DVD recorder with the wires it came with, but it would not play or give me the menu. However it was correctly hooked up. So the next day I connected a HDMI wire from the DVD recorder to the tv and everything works now.

Cyberhome DVD-1600
To set the factory default settings just do the following:
  1. Get the DVD-1600 manual
  2. Open to the page which shows you how to set the player to factory default settings
  3. Switch on the TV and click to the channel that you will watch your DVDs
  4. Switch on the DVD player and make sure there is no disc in it - this ensures the DVD is not already in a menu or any other thing
  5. Follow the instructions in the manual to the 'T' although you will be unable to see anything
  6. If you follow the instructions correctly you should get back to 'interlaced mode'. By this time you will be able to see the DVD output on the screen.
