I bought a new TV with optical out for sound. My Sherwood 4109 does not have optical so I had to buy a digital/analog converter with an optical cable. This worked for day and i had sound from my ceiling speakers and now nothing. I get sound from the ceiling speakers with the radio on but nothing through aux. I swapped the converter, optical cable, audio cable and it still does not work. Only leaves the TV or the receiver.
SOURCE: How do I connect my TV to my audio/video receiver?
The TV has a coaxial digital (SPDIF) output, and the receiver has two coaxial digital inputs available. Simply connect the TV's output to the receiver with the appropriate cable (shielded cable with RCA plugs) and select the input on the receiver. The TV manual says you only get digital output when watching a digital channel. The manuals for both your TV and receiver can be downloaded from the manufacturers' websites if you need copies.

SOURCE: technics turntable plays but no sound with Sherwood receiver
The problem is the fact that the new receiver has no phono input. The phono input has an extra stage of amplification built in. Your receiver is working fine. You need to purchase a phono pre-amp. These run around $20. Connect the turntable to the preamp and the presmp output to any line level input on your new receiver and everything will work as expected.

SOURCE: Sherwood RD-7502 Hdmi Audio Problem
if you have a tv with outputs you can connect audio wires from your tv output to your audio receiver input and you will have surround sound for everything connected to your tv
Testimonial: "That's a good idea. I hope that my TV will output the hdmi audio through the optical output on it. Thanks"
