My Dyson began making strange noises, and continues to.

Unless the brush is off (and even then, it sounds strained). We've taken it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. We've checked to make sure the brush can move freely and to make sure nothing is out of place, as far as we can tell.

Its performance has been reduced terribly. With the brush on, it sounds terrible. With the brush off, it sounds strained, and cleans even worse.

SOURCE: brushes not going round

The brushes on my dyson have stopped going round. I have checked it and they move freely by hand. The belt is intact. What could the problem be? The Hoover is about 10 to 12 years old.
My dyson is a dc04

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
One of the main problems with vacuums are that the flat belts on the vacuums stretch and should be changed every 4 to 6 months or 3 or 4 times a year – you can tell by taking off the belt or belts on the vacuums and compare them to the old belts on the vacuum the new belts will fix inside of the old belts and you will be able to see the difference on how much they have stretched – if the belt is a geared belt – they stretch as well but should be changed about one a year – the cost is not that expensive and you cleaning will improve almost double – this also applies for the Dyson DC04 and the Hoover vacuum as well – some of the Hoover vacuums have two (2) belts and they both should be changed @ the same time.

SOURCE: my dyson smells terrible while it's on

Clean the filters and check to make sure you don't have something fowl stuck in any inlets. Spray Lysol into the hose while the unit is on and see if it relieves the smell. If it is mildew or a dander smell you have to clean the filters and then use the Lysol.

That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:

SOURCE: dyson absolute 17 animal smells like its burning

I had the same problem with my DC15. With the brushes going it smelled like burning hair (bad). I had cleaned the brushes many times and it didn't seem to help. I even took it into a Dyson authorized repair shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. As a last resort I called Dyson 866-693-9766 1-866-My-Dyson. I was on hold for about 15 minutes before getting a live person. He had my problem diagnosed in literally 1 minute. I had hair wrapped around the spindle, inside the brush/roller mechanism. He walked me through taking apart the brush mechanism (super simple only using a quarter). There was a TON of hair crammed around the spindles and inside the brushes. All wrapped very tightly. I hung up with him to do the cleaning. It took some time and I had to use tweezers to get inside the rollers/brushes. But I got it all, put it back together (which was really easy) and tested it out. No burning hair smell at all. FIXED!

My dyson animal sounds like something is stuck and flapping in the hose, filter, etc. I have taken it apart and I can not find anything. Have you had anyone else experience this issue?

try changing the filter. could be it is coming apart and making the noise. Also sometime these hoses will tear on the inside (lining of hose) and make a flapping or knocking sound. Check the hose as well.

My husband ran over my daughters shirt with our Dyson DC17 animal. Now it's making this horrible load ratting noise. I've taken the head off. Clean the beater bar. The belt is in tact. No

First make sure there are not any of the rubber cogs missing from the belt, it may be wise to replace the belt anyway because the cogs may be worn. Make sure the brush roll does not have any play in it anywhere and that It fits tightly in the nozzle housing without any play. If there is any play or wiggle that will cause it to move.

DC07 dyson brush not turning

Hi Robin,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. Your machine's brush control is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if an obstruction is jamming the brushbar. The easiest way to check everything is correct with the machine is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=804&product=DC07-ANIMAL_US

This should resolve the issue, but if the cleaner continues to make the noise after you've removed any obstructions from the cleaner head, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can help.

Kind regards,

Jack

My Dyson is making a really strange loud sound. It appears to be working. I just took it apart and cleaned the filter and the wand. When I put everything back together, it started making a heavy whirring...

Check the tips of the beater bar. I "bumped" mine to hard and broke a tip. Still worked! Just noisy. Called Dyson support and they sent me a new one no charge. Note. Mine had a loud whirring and a vibration.

I have a DC25 that will not pick anything up. It seems to be throwing everything back out somewhere. It only powers on when its not in the upright position. There is also a strange noise when it's turned...

The discharge is just the brush kicking whatever you try to vacuum to the rear of the vacuum. Without suction, that's the results. If there are no clogs throughout the hose, including the piece that's in the power nozzle, then the fan assembly is probably shot. The noise, probably a rattling noise could be pieces of the fan that have broken off.
The fan assembly should be able to be replaced, but unless you know what you're doing, take it to an authorized shop. It's possible that the motor and fan assembly are one piece, so both would need replacing.

My Dyson 14 Animal seems to not have the suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Firstly check that the brush bar control on the cleaner head is in the correct position. You may have switched the brush bar off the last time you used it or the dial may hav got knocked when you vacuumed under some low furniture.

If this is in the correct position but the brush bar is still not turning, switch the machine off and remove the soleplate by turning the 3 fasteners on the base of the machine and checking for blockages and remove any threads or hairs around the brush bar.

I would recommend washing the filter if it hasnt been done for a while.

You may find it useful to follow the blockage procedure and filter washing instructions in your user guide, however if you no longer have this available you download a replacement for free via the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards
Darran

I cleaned the roller on my Dyson DC 07, and after reassembly, it makes a sound like the belt is being chewed. I took it apart a couple times, goes back together fine, but still makes the noise

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Your machine is designed to make this ratchet noise if the brush bar is obstructed. We would recommend checking the brush bar and soleplate area and removing any blockages or hairs/threads that are wrapped around the brush bar.

Full details on these checks can be found in our Support section online at www.dyson.com.

The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

Dyson DC15 -

First see this link: http://www.espares.co.uk/datastore/ProductManuals/350256.pdf
There must be something else stuck in the roller assembly. Or it wasn't mounted correct. He will have to dismount it, inspect each piece and carefully reassemble it. Make sure that the wires at the circuit board do not become loose or break.
