Dell Latitude E6410 : Mouse & ext. Keyboard lost when putting back into docking station

Problem : When using the labtop out of the docking station (mobile mode) with external mouse and putting it back into its docking station (office mode) the Keyboard and mouse both attached to the docking station will not be detected any more. Questions : 1) How to prevent this? 2) Is there a way to redetect the ext. keyboard once put back into the docking station? (->detect hardware ...?) Many thanks in advance.

Hi Alex, in Win XP there is not such button "Add a device". Any advice how to find it?

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2012

It is its just trickier to find, it should come under a "Hardware and Sound" category. To be honest, if they work on the portable mode, reconnecting them whilst the pc is docked should fix it.

with the pc in portable mode, go to you list of devices, right click on the key and mouse icons and there should be an otion to "update driver software" you'll ned it to be connected to the internet to do this. failing that, remove the devices, delete the devices off your device list, and try installing them with the PC in its dock.

Go to the Control Panel in your start menu whilst the PC is in the dock, disconnect the things you want it to detect, then click on "Add a device" and connect them one by one :)

SOURCE: Keyboard locks on startup, mouse pad works, FN & ECS (for Standby) works

your comp is infected for sure.i`ve seen many cases where my customer`s comp is infected and they face the same problem.
make sure you have ethernet cable plugged in to your laptop so we can use safe mode with networking. shutdown your computer.on top of the keyboard you have F8 key.the moment you`ll press the power button to turn on the computer start tapping F8. advance boot up options will appear. select safe mode with networking
try restoring your comp to a previous time when it was working. if it doesn`t work don`t worry just follow the steps below. In any case you have to clean virus out of your computer.
download, install and run this software.after running the scan clean all the infections and restart your comp.

My Dell E172FPi monitor doesnt show when I try to extend to another display. My laptop is a Latitude E6410. How do I add this monitor?

Connect the monitor to the laptop. Use a standard VGA-to-VGA cable. Plug one end of the VGA into the VGA-out port on the left side of the laptop. Connect the other end of the cable to the VGA port on the rear of the monitor.
Turn the computer on. When it boots up try using the "F" keys along the top row of the computer keyboard. One of the F keys should extend the desktop to your monitor. (Other F keys may move the entire display to the monitor or make all displays go dark.)

Dell latitude d800 not switching on ?

I may have addressed this question earlier. If your Dell shows absolutely no sign of life... no LEDs, no nothing and you know for certain the battery and/or power adapter is good then...

If you have access to a docking station (ANY Dell dock that will mate with the bottom connector on your D800), put the D800 in the dock and use the power button on the docking station.

If the laptop powers up, you may have a simply problem with the laptop "Press to turn on" button.

ABOVE THE LAPTOP KEYBOARD...
Use a small flat screwdriver blade to remove the Center Control Cover (just beneath the display/cover hinge and above the F1-F12 keys). Locate the cover's flat ribbon cable connector above the Page Up key. Pull off and carefully reinstall. Try the power button now. If it works, put everything back together. Otherwise seek profession help.

Dell Latitude E6410 : Mouse & ext. Keyboard lost when putting back into dockin station

I am assuming that you mean the USB on the docking station is not detecting your mouse and keyboard, please can you open your device manager and have a look for the docking station in the list, if you see it in the list but is has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark showing next to the docking station, if this is the case right click on the line and remove this from the list, and then get device manager to refresh, this will reinstall the driver and should get the docking station working again.

Dell latitude D410 wont boot up when hooked to docking station can not use keyboard or mouse

Sounds like a compatibility issue between your Dell and the Docking station. I would say make sure the software for your docking station is installed properly, and update the software before connecting again.

Keyboard not working on one side of switch

the GCS632U has keyboard and mouse emulation that may not function correctly with docking stations. To ensure the KVM it self is working correctly I would suggest plugging the single USB from the KVM directly into the laptop and see if you have the same keyboard problem. This will at least tell you if the KVM is working properly or not.

D630 docked , ext mouse & kybd not responding

If the docking station has power:

Make sure power is off for both the laptop and the docking station. Plug your keyboard and mouse into the docking station. Dock the D630 to the docking station and then power on docking station. This should then turn on your D630. Your D630 should detect the keyboard and mouse.

If the docking station has no power:

Verify that the power cord, AC adaptor, etc. is plugged in. If the items listed seem to be in order,
there may be a problem with the power going into the docking station. (AC adaptor?)

support.dell.com will have the specific details for your D630 and your docking station, et al.

Please let me know if you have success in this.
