I have a Hotpoint HSS25GFPEWW side by side.....initially the ice maker stopped crushing and dispensing ice....then the freezer started to warm. I cleaned the condenser coils and confirmed the condenser fan and compressor were running....checked evaporator coils and they were frosted up, although the fan was running....cleaned out unit and defrosted evaporator coils with hair dryer...plugged in and evaporator coils iced up again....replaced defrost heater....unit would not cool at all....replaced mother board...still won't cool....no frost on evaporator coils...both fans and compressor are running....any ideas?

SOURCE: Hi! I have a side

Hi,
What you have there is a bad compressor that either is not starting or there is an internal problem that causes the compressor to not work properly all the time....this can happen....

When you hear the humming I would verfiy that the compressor is if fact running and not just trying to run....

If not then check the start components... the relay and capacitor may be bad....

From what you are saying though I would be leaning towrds a bad compressor that will run but not be pumping all the time...

Dispenses crushed ice only, not cubed

remove the dispenser bucket where the ice drops into inside the freezer and get a Tupper ware bowl, remove the bucket and dump this ice into the bowl, then rinse with the dispenser bucket with warm tap water to melt any ice on each end of this ice maker, then wipe dry and replace into freezer where you removed it to get cold again and leave empty till the next harvest of ice, this can be normal on some units after so many weeks,as it will not let the blades retract so as just to dispense only cubes, once bucket is cleaned of ice jams the solenoid and blades will again retract for cubes only

Ice maker will only crush, won't let you get cubes

The dispenser door is staying open and allowing warm moist air back inside the freezer. This are is causing the frost to build up in your ice bucket.

You will need to put your finger up into the dispenser and push it shut. The other option is to get the dispenser solenoid replaced.

Good luck.

ICE MAKER

to solve the frozen food problem, turn the temp back to 4. this should be the factory recomended setting. the only dispensing crush ice is probably a bad solinoid. you will find this behind the back wall. it engages to lift the thin metal rod on the bottom of the ice bucket to dispense cubed ice. and the ice being frozen in the bucket is probably a bad ice flapper in the door. it's letting warm moist air into the ice bucket that is freezing

Ice maker stopped making ice

Hi

If the ice maker has completely stopped producing ice then check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. For this you need to look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary. If the ice maker is producing ice poorly i.e. if it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

My ice-maker keeps switching to crush on it's own.

There is a long rod on the right side of the ice dispensing bucket.

This rod goes through a hole in the back wall of the freezer where a solenoid should pull up on the rod allowing the ice cubes to dispense without being crushed.

If this solenoid goes bad or ice forms around the plunger, it cannot pull up on the rod.

Check out that solenoid and the rod assembly.

Ice maker not working

The icemakers won't make ice if the temperature is not below a certain set point. Varies between manufacturers. Try making the temp colder.
