PHILIPS GoGear Vibe Won't Firmware Reset

I tried to run the device repair from the computer, and it's stuck on Restoring to Factory Settings. I tried everything but nothing works. The thing gets stuck at the ViBE splash screen. It does go into recovery and MTP does work. Any suggestions as to what do to? Or do I have a brick?

SOURCE: Not able to play video in philips gogear pls suggets

Hello,

Media players need the matching video format: for GoGear Vibe it is SMV.
To convert video from AVI to SigmaTel Motion Video, use the Media Converter Software from the manufacturer. For the videos you'd like to convert, be sure to update video codecs in Windows Media Player 10 or higher.

Vibe players have different display sizes, so you'll need the matching Converter for your player.
When you have the United States version SA5285/37 next site gives all support, including the Arcsoft video converter:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=SA5285/37&slg=en&scy=US
note
There's and update for the Arcsoft converter, for downloading directly YouTube films:
click on EXTRAS at the top right hand corner of the Arcsoft main screen.
At the pull down menu click UPDATE AND PATCHES, Arcsoft will check
and let user download and install the updated Stream Ripper feature
( streaming videos need flv video codec )

My volume button broke

1 Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip, if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display. Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off. If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

2 Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager." This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button. Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode. Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then follow the steps to fully recover the GoGear. Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

3 Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing. Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord. Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on. This will begin the charging process of your GoGear. If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced. Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

Hi masonrechell,

You may want to attempt a Repair - this process will update the firmware as well as restore the device to factory settings. I am not sure what model you have, but the Philips Support Site has a lot of valuable resources (www.philips.com/support).

Simply enter your model number to be taken to the product specific page:

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:

Your player might hang up. Use a pen tip or other sharp object to insert the RESET hole gently on the side of the player and connect it again to your PC.
If it is still not recognized, your player may be at fault. Try the Philips Device Manager software.

NOTE: Contents will be removed by using the repair function.
  1. Install the Philips Device Manager and run it with your player connected to your PC. You can download it under the Software & drivers section.
  2. Click the Repair tab in the Device Manager, press and hold the corresponding recovery key on the player when connecting it to your PC.

I have a problem with it want come on\

Hi h rosson9821,

Depending on your specific model (typically Philips GoGear products begin with "SA"), you can perform a Repair/Recovery which will restore your product to factory settings as well as update the firmware (and improve performance).

After performing a Repair, be sure to leave your player charging for at least 2 hours and practice a regular charging routine.

For FAQ's, manuals, software, chat, and more, you can visit the Philips Support site at www.philips.com/support (enter your model number to find product specific information).

If you have additional questions, you can reach Consumer Care at 1-888-744-5477.

Hope this helps! If so, let me know by rating this solution!

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:

To reset the player, please use a hard sharp object such as the tip of a ball-pen to insert the RESET hole GENTLY and then press and hold the power slider to switch on the player.

If the reset method does not help, please try Device Manager:

1. Install the Philips Device Manager and run it with your player connected to PC.
(You can download it under Software & drivers section in the product web page.)

2. Run the Device manager Software on your PC.

3. Click the Repair tab in the Device Manager, press and hold the VOL+ button on your player to perform the repair function.

4. Safely disconnect the player from your PC when the repair is completed.

5. Turn on your player.

6. Go to Settings --> Information to check the current firmware version. If the firmware is 6.28 or higher, the problem should be solved.

Go gear vibe has been frozen for about 25 min. wont shut off or anything

Hi, i stuck a pin in the reset hole, (to the right of the lock switch) and it shut it off, than all you have to do is turn it back on..

The Philips GoGear is a portable MP3 player with additional functionality such as the ability to record your voice or the radio. Some minor problems may develop in the device that keep if from working normally. The most common issues are the GoGear freezing, not powering on and memory-error messages. Troubleshoot your device to return your GoGear to normal operation.

Unresponsive

1. Your GoGear may not respond to button presses from time to time. This is often caused by an error in the operating system and can be fixed by resetting the device. Resetting the GoGear is similar to rebooting your computer. You will not lose any of the data uploaded to the device. To reset the GoGear, press the "Reset" button located on the left of the device. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and then turn back on.

If the GoGear freezes after uploading a file to the device or if one song or sound file freezes the device each time you play it, the file is likely corrupt and needs to be removed from the GoGear. Connect the GoGear to a computer and delete the file from the device.

GoGear Does Not Power On
Problems with powering up the GoGear are often the result of an exhausted battery. If you cannot power on the GoGear, charge the battery with the supplied charger.

In some instances there is an error with the device that is keeping it from powering on. Unlike the errors that freeze the device, errors that keep it from powering on cannot be cleared by pressing the "Reset" button. The errors need to be fixed by using the "Firmware Manager." The Firmware Manager is a computer program that restores your device to their factory conditions. You will be able to use your device again after restoring it to factory conditions, but you will lose all of the data on your GoGear.

To use the Firmware Manager, open the installation CD supplied with your GoGear and follow the onscreen instructions to install the Firmware Manager on your computer. Plug the GoGear into the computer and check that your computer is connected to the Internet. Open "Firmware Manager" on your computer. You will be prompted to "Restore" the firmware or "Update" the firmware. Since you need to restore your device to working order, select the "Restore Firmware" option. Updating the firmware will not delete the files or errors that are causing the GoGear to malfunction.

Once the process is complete and your GoGear can power on again, consider updating the firmware. Updates give your device extra functionality and repair errors in the device.

Memory Full
The GoGear allows you to make voice or FM radio recordings and saves the recordings to the internal memory. The internal memory is limited and the GoGear may show the message "Memory Full" when trying to save recordings. When you receive this message, plug the device into the computer and delete any extraneous files or files you no longer want to keep on your device. This will free up memory so you can save more recordings or place additional music files on the GoGear.

Hope it helped..

Have a nice day.
