Proline pool pump high pitch noise

Pool pump has a leak and is also making a high-pitched noise. Leak may be a pump seal? But, could that be the reason for the high-pitched noise as well, or something else?

The motor bearings are probably starting to fail. If you winterize the pool I would take the motor portion off the pump and have a local electric motor repair shop look at it. A simple bearing change and new pump seal would run $50 or less at most places. If not, shock the pool and run the pump overnight to balance the water and then pull the motor for the repair. It will probably only take a day or so for it to be completed.

could be its has air getting in when its pumping or the motor bearings are worn out or just dryed out it could even be a partly blocked inlet filter causing this pump to whine,
try looking for inlet pipe air leaks and blocked filters
or some thing resting on the pump impeller

SOURCE: Proline Pump 8D-10-1n11CB. This is for a pool and is leaking from the shaft to the motor

The pump seal is bad on the unit. This requires disassemble of the pump unit. Remove power to the unit, dissasemble pump housing, remove the impeller from the shaft of the motor by removing the allen screw with an allen wrench. Seperate pump housing from motor remove the old seal replace seal. Lube motor shaft with a little clean oil or wd40 to facilitate easy install thru new seal, reassemble in reverse.

SOURCE: our dynamo CA04-26 pool pump is making a whining

The bearings are likely failing and they are not open to allow for re-lubrication. You can replace them yourself or take the motor to a local electric motor repair shop to have it done for you. A shop will probably cost about $40 to $50 for parts and labor. You should also replace the seal at the same time. The cost for the seal is under $10 and the labor shouldn't change.

The motor manufacturers do not offer cut-away or parts diagrams. Parts such as bearings are purchased thru power transmission outlets locally. Parts for the pump should be found at a local pool store that sells the equipment. You will likely need a new set of 203 bearings, a flange gasket and mechanical seal. All told, the parts should be less than $40.

I have a DREAMMAKER SPA (6 months old) with a 2 speed HYBRID PUMP. It has developed a high pitched whistle or whine when running. Is this a bearing? Could there be some stuff stuck in the impeller??

90% chance it is indeed the bearings. It is possible something could be stuck in the impeller causing noise, but not usually a high pitched whine. If you see water leaking, or calcium buildup where the pump meets the motor, then the shaft seal has failed and that is what's causing the bearing failure. Either way you'll need to replace the motor or have the bearings replaced. Look for a local pool pump repair shop (or some pool supply stores replace bearings as well). They should check the motor out for free and give you estimate to to repair/rebuild, or a price on a new motor if that's what you need/want. Hope this helps. Proline pool pump SD-1--1N11XB

This sounds like you have a bad seal in your pump and the loose piece is probally a piece on the shaft of the motor called a water slinger. This is just there in case your seal goes bad and leaks water it will spin with the motor and sling the leaking water out and away from the motor so a small leak does not ruin your motor. But you will still need to replace your seal and "O" ring.

My hayward pump is making a high pitched noise however it is still working? Just too noisy

The motor bearings are failing. A local electric motor repair shop should be able to fix it rather inexpensively. You should probably have the pump seal replaced at the same time.

Pool filter making a loud noise

The sound you are hearing is most likely rust forming on the inside of the motor. It tends to happen when a pump seal starts to fail. Water travels up the spining shaft from behind the impeller into the motor. The high pitch is a direct result.
Solution. Replace the pump seal, and find a motor repair shop/ Pool pump repair shop to take a look at the motor. Have them check the brushes and bearings. Once clean of rust the motor should be quiet once again.
