hi, as far as my experience unlock codes are the best method to unlock your phone, i used codes from http://www.prounlocking.com/sony-ericsson/rs8wp8/ to unlock my phone and it worked well,you need to specify the country and network provider

go to page 85 of your user guide (or here "http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/230/080/1193011122/W880i__AIUG_R1a_AE.pdf" if you don't have the book) and look at "master reset".

It may not be the handet, it could be a software malfunction,

I suggest you take it to a phone repair shop and get it fixed.

Go onto the sony ericsson web site and see if there is a windows vista compatiable software suite availble to download if not you will have to wait till the release it.... Good old Vista, my sujestion if its just to put music on your memory card then just buy a memory card reader and drag and drop the media straight on the card its much faster

the only way to remove it is to have it set back to default by a technician
