Award bios one long beep

Immediately after power-on the system gives a 10 second long, single beep and then 5 seconds of silence then repeats. Fan runs, nothing else.

A Comprehensive Guide on Computer Beep Codes. (AWARD BIOS)

When a computer is booted up its BIOS, it performs a power-on self test, also known as POST, to test and verify the computers hardware and to make sure all components are working properly. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to determine which component has failed on a particular beep code and give you an idea on where to start for troubleshooting.

The exact meaning of the beep codes depends on the type and version of BIOS that you have. The three most popular types of BIOS are those made by Award, American Megatrends (AMI) and Phoenix. If you are using a PC made by a company that writes its own BIOS, e.g. DELL, HP, etc, you will have to consult your PC user's manual or the company's web site for assistance.

Beep Codes for Award Bios.

iantechson.png

1 long, 2 short = Video adapter error

Troubleshooting: Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly.

Repeating (endless loop) = Memory error

Troubleshooting: Check for improperly seated or missing memory. Reseat the memory if you can.

1 long, 3 short = No video card or bad video RAM.

Troubleshooting: Reseat or replace the video card.

High frequency beeps while running = Overheated CPU

Troubleshooting: Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.

Repeating High/Low = CPU failure.Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat.

Troubleshooting: Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.

I will be posting more tips on other versions of BIOS.
Hope this helps.

What is the beep code asus p5ntws

AMI (American Megatrends International) BIOS Beep Codes.
AMI BIOS uses beeps of the same length and pitch. The error is displayed as a number of beeps. For example, 4 beeps indicated a timer failure.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Beep (No video) Memory refresh failure Bad memory
2 Beeps Memory parity error Bad memory
3 Beeps Base 64K mem failure Bad memory
4 Beeps Timer not operational Bad motherboard
5 Beeps Processor error Bad processor
6 Beeps 8042 Gate A20 failure Bad CPU or Motherboard
7 Beeps Processor exception Bad processor
8 Beeps Video memory error Bad video card or memory
9 Beeps ROM checksum error Bad BIOS
10 Beeps CMOS checksum error Bad motherboard
11 Beeps Cache memory bad Bad CPU or motherboard

Award BIOS Beep Codes
Award BIOS uses beeps of varying duration. A long beep will typically last for 2 seconds while a short beep will last only 1 second. Award BIOS also uses beeps of different frequency to indicate critical errors. If an Award BIOS detects that the CPU is overheating it may play a high pitched repeating beep while the computer is running.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Long, 2 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter
Repeating (Endless loop) Memory error Bad memory or bad connection
1 Long, 3 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter or memory
High freq. beeps (while running) CPU is overheating CPU fan failure
Repeating High, Low beeps CPU failure Bad processor

Power won't turn off and computer will not boot. I've removed the battery and cleared the CMOS with the jumper. lt happened after a couple of power failures at home however pwer supply has a surge...

If i understand you correctly, you are saying that you have a single beep repeating over and over with nothing showing on the monitor and no other response from your computer? The single long beep in a loop is an Award Bios beep code for a faulty CPU. This problem is not mentioned on the official website of the manufacturer. Unfortunately your only option is to replace the CPU. You might try removing and re-seating the cpu making sure you have proper cooling measures in place. Hope that helps!

Failed POST

Foxconn uses the Award bios. One beep repeating means, check for improperly seated or missing memory. You can find that here. http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm
Remove your memory & re-seat.

Good luck!

Continuous Beeping, new PC

Hi.
Continues short beeps... means a short OR no power OR loose card OR system board.
Test it without the keyboard and mouse too. Just the Processor with heatsink, motherboard, memory and Video card.
Now add the keyboard, no mouse yet.
Check also the voltage of the CMOS Battery it should be 3V.

keep me posted for the result... count also the beeps.
