After a rainy day, the ac stopped on its own and displayed an E1 error. I ignored it and the ac turned on again, but soon after displayed the E1 error. The E1 error went away and worked, but blew warm air instead of cold, so I cleaned the filter. I have the ac on cool and the temp is set at 61.
A few hours later, I decided to look online to troubleshoot the problem and unplugged the ac, but when I plugged it back in, the E1 error showed again and I couldn't do anything. I used the remote and and it worked again, but only blew warm air. The temperature that is displayed is stuck on 82 degrees, and just went up to 83, but then back to 82.
I don't know what to do and it's really warm. Please help.

highly annoying issue error code E1. After hours of fan operation, the error code E1 will appear on the seven segment LED temperature display. This error code is intended as a reminder for the user to clean the air filter. However, because the procedure outlined in the user manual does not clear this error code as indicated, and the appliance has a nonvolatile memory that cannot be reset by simply unplugging it, the user of the appliance will become mightily frustrated, standing in potentially sweltering heat watching the appliance repeatedly shut down in the midst of operation with the "E1" display flashing.
Believe it or not, that is what it does: if you unplug it to remove the "E1" code from the display, and plug it back in and re-start it, it will simply run for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, and then merrily shut down again with the same flashing "E1" code.
So you will come home to a hot bedroom, living room, etc. unexpectedly, and you will NOT be amused, as I was not.
Many people at this point, having put the manual under the canary or some such, will simply return the unit and never buy another Sharp air conditioner. But for the tech-savvy and search-adept, I offer the following procedure to clear the nefarious E1 indication, and obtain
1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front panel. 2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket. 3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence, and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power button. 4. Unplug the air conditioner. 5. Plug the air conditioner back in. 6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed the instructions above EXACTLY.

The E1 code is an error code that appears on the LED temperature display of some digital air conditioners. The error code could mean anything from dirty air filters to a damaged room thermistor, a safety connected to your thermostat that detects room temperature. Troubleshooting the cause of this error code may improve your air conditioner's performance
Push buttons about five times each beforjust to make sure they are not stuck....then......Turn the air conditioner OFF and unplug it. NOTE: The air conditioner must be unplugged for the automatic filter clean timer to reset. Clean the filter. See the Care and Cleaning section in your use and care manual. After cleaning, replace the filter and plug the air conditioner back in.
Other forums say the E1 code is because the AC thinks a button is stuck or because it's dirty, but almost all of them say to use the remote and it'll work ok.
my AC is going on 5-6 years, it's never failed me until the years. The Error E1 code hes been coming on lately. i wait a few MIN's, then try again. about the 7-10 tries the unit comes on.
I called haier about this error code. E1 indicates that a button on the control panel or the reomote is stuck. I was instructed to unplug the unit and push each button at least 5 times, one at a time. Plug the unit back in, and this fixed my problem with error E1 and the unit works fine.
