Ps3 won't display on hdtv via dvi

I have a sony xbr 40 inch hdtv crt with a dvi connection. I have direct Tv hooked  up via hdmi and it works fine. I hooked up  my PS3 via HDMI and it worked perfectly for several months until now. There is no picture from the PS, so I changed cables to no avail. I connected the DirectTV HDMI cable to the PS and that didn't work either. I even exchanged my ps3 for a new one and that didn't work. I changed the output settings in the ps menu (hdmi, conponent video and back again) and this didn't work. I downloaded updates of ps3 software. Nothing is working. Lastly, I watch my blurays on my ps hooked to my projector and this works with no problem. Is there something wrong with my TV? Why would my directTV hd work on the sony but not the ps? Thanks for the help. Max

Re-Set the PS-3, by pressing and holding down the power button (front panel) this hard re-sets the unit and yo can then reconfigure via the composite video cable it came with, back to HDMI / DVI

Check the audio cable it might not been connected securely.

Could also be missing.

Even with the HDMI you may still needs it ( DVI is for video only).

DVI means Digital Video Interface.

Well theres a few diffrent ways to connect a ps3..u can connect it with a rca connection,,thats the standard one that u should have,,,do that first,,,then connect your other one while ps3 is on the screen with the rca one ,,go to settings under display,,choose hd setting for your tv,,,then onece you plug in connecter u choose to use ,,it will detect it,,,unplug standard one,,there u go,,that tv,,should have dvi ,rca,and component,,,thats the red ,green ,blue,,thats a hd connection,,so is dvi or hdmi,,,if tv has dvi,,get a dvi adapter to hdmi,,at walmart,,hook it up,,good luck,,

Got a PS3 hooked upto a Samsung 40" LCD TV via
I would suggest trying a different TV, and maybe see if you still have any Component or Standard Definition Composite cables to connect the PS3 to the TV and see if it works that way. I would assume you did this when you said you reset the resolution on your PS3, but turn it off, then hold in the power button until it beeps twice in a row. (Just in case) Make sure everything is plugged in twice and your TV is on the right input. If none of that works, there may be something wrong with the graphics adapters on your PS3 in which case you will need to contact Sony about fixing it.

Your Dell Monitor does not have a video output. The DVI/HDMI cable needs to run from the DVI-Out of you computer tower directly to the TVs HDMI input, ideally one with a red/white analog audio input next to it, because that cable only provides a video signal. If you don't have a DVI out on your computer, perhaps your TV has a VGA input. If your computer/video card only has one monitor connector, then you can only connect the Monitor OR the TV.

PS3 surround sound
You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.

Try setting the resolution to a higher grade or a lower grade.. That solved the problem for me.. good luck!

Optical output, no sound!
Have you selected Optical output from the audio setup screen of the TV? That needs to be selected to transfer TV audio to the optical out of the TV.
