Need jumper settings wd800 as Mast. & maxtor Dia.plus as slave??

To use the WD 800 as a master there must be no jumper attached to it.The maxtor has a diagram for the jumper and it MUST be set to slave not cable select.

Need jumper setting for slave drive ide

If the drive is the Seagate Baracuda series, then simply remove all the jumpers from 8-pin jumper block and it will be a Slave drive.

If you want any other settings, the jumper settings are described here:

Pin connection for 'master ..slave

I assume these are IDE drives since SATA doesn't require jumper settings. . .You will need to set the primary drive jumper to master[ma] & the secondary drive jumper to slave[sl]. Some systems require dual hdd systems to have both set to the cable select[cs] jumper. Check your motherboard or system manufacturer manual to see which setup your system requires. If you lost the manual most manufacturers have it availablr on their website under the support link. Hope this helps.

Maxtor 500 gig internal diamondmax 21

external USB hard drives do not need to be jumpered, if your computer does not recognize the ext. drive probably it is because the enclosure is defective, when you connect the USB cable you should get the "ding-dong" connection sound.

If you think that your computer recognizes the hard drive then jumper it as "secondary" or "cable select" and install it INTERNALLY, then transfer your data, that will prove that there's a problem with the ext. enclosure.

One more thing, maybe the USB port you use is malfunctioning, try one that you know that works (assuming that you have other USB devices that work).

On a older system gateway w/ windows 95 hard drive went south I put another in, the two drives; org, wdcaviar 24300, the newer wd caviar wd800 are jumpers same

Jumpers on the newer Western Digital drives are different. If the drive is a single, then you should not have any jumpers on. If it's going to be a master and there's a slave, the jumper goes on the middle two pins of the five sets
