There are three elements to voice mail; having a Panasonic brand voice mail system, recording the greetings, and setting call forward conditions. Which ones have you done?

The default access to voice mail is extension 500 on the intercom, but we used to use 165. When you dial it, the lady says "welcome to the Panasonic voice processing system". If she doesn't or you're asked for a password, or you have not done the tutorial, then you need to do that and it guides you to the setup of the greetings, name, and password change. After that, you dial *710x 500 (or your VM access) # on the inercom to set call forward to voice mail, with 4 being no answer (my preference since it gives me the option of answering the 2nd call or letting it fall to voice mail), or 5 for Busy/No Answer.

The message manager (mailbox 998) and the system owner (mailbox 999) has the ability to access and change how the voice mail system performs. The owner can change your name for the directory or reset your password and/or
setup or delete your mailbox.

SOURCE: voice mail notification to cell phone

This is a phone system phone. What you are looking for would be a feature of your voice mail that is connected to the phone system. "Handsfree Speakerphone- 3-Line Back Lit display and 24-Line Keys. Compatible with KXTDA200 and KXTDA100 Systems. " Sounds like you either have a KX-TDA200 or KX-TDA100 phone system. Usually voice mail is an optional feature and has a separate part number. You could also have voice mail service through your phone service provider (like Verizon) Do you have any user guides for your voice mail or one for your phone that covers voice mail features? If not, the first step is to find out for sure what you have for a voice mail. If you have a working message waiting light on the phone it would be an in-house voice mail connected to the system.

SOURCE: voicemail

Is there an answering machine built into your phone? There is an option in most phones to clear voice mail alerts.Unplugging the phone want help if it has battery backup.Phone company voice mail gives you stutter dial tone when you have voice mail waiting so if you do not have stutter dial tone when you pick up your hand set the problem is most likely your phone.you may have to program your other hand set to communicate with the base.I guess were talking about cordless phones.Check your manual.

SOURCE: Line 1 of my phone is always busy.

From your description it sounds that you have a short on your Line 1. Its either on DMarc of your carrier or it cross connected improperly. However your post is not clear on voicemail. In normal operation if busy it doesnt go to voicemail.
Call your carrier first and report troubled line. Their technician will tell you what to do next.

SOURCE: New Voice Mail message

You received a message on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. To hear the message, dial the voicemail number provided by your service provider (in many cases, this will be your own phone number), and follow the voice instructions for listening to your messages. You need to store the voicemail access # by pressing [MENU], [#] [3],[3],[1] on the handset. To access the voicemail, press [TALK], then softkey [VM]. Depending on your service provider, you may need to clear your voice mailbox to remove the notification.

Panasonic voice mail works fine except when our line is busy callers get the busy signal and are unable to leave a voice message

Yes - Afraid that is the case, certainly in the uk.
Phone will only accept a message if phone is not in use / not answered.
You do get notified that there is a call waiting so you can either switch to their call and ask them to call back.
Or when you have finished call - their number will show as last caller and you can call them back.

Small business 4 line phones are generally workhorses and are easy to setup and use. I recommend them for many clients specifically because they are reliable regular phones. The benefits of these for small business are:
  • Inexpensive – you can buy them at most office supply stores, on line or used at Ebay
  • Ease of setup – basic plug & play. Plug it into the wall and it will work. If you need to get an adaptor it’s at Radio Shack, not special ordered. You don’t need a technician to install them if your office has been wired for the lines.
  • Works on regular dial tone – no need to have extra bandwidth or special adaptors
  • Ease of use – most importantly you don’t want to have to learn or teach someone how to answer the phone. You won’t have to call a technician to make changes to the programming.
I suggest not getting phones with voice mail built in. If the lines are busy your customer will not be able to leave a message. Combine a 4 line phone system in the office with a voice mail to email service outside the office and your customers will be able to reach you or leave a message.
When you are running your business you don’t want to worry about the phone. You want it to ring and have a clear conversation with your customer. If you have trouble hearing them or you get disconnected all the features won’t matter. If your office has only a few people and 2 to 8 phone lines a 4 line phone may be a great option.

Voice mail not working

The Voice Mail system provides the voice mail service based on the existing network. When a call is transferred to the VM system, the system asks the calling party to leave a message for the called party when the called party is busy, powered off, or out of the service area. It provides voice mail, call prompt, and voice short message and email. By adopting VM service, operators' system put-through rate, service usage rate, customer satisfaction, and revenue can be improved.

Even though my answering machine indicates it is on, noone can leave a message. The response is that the mailbox has not been set up.Can you help? Thank you.I have had this system for quite a while and have...

A "mailbox not set up" message is coming from your telephone line voice mail system, and not from your telephone answeringmachine. What this means is that the voice mail on the phone line is picking up before the answering machine has a chance, and since the mailbox hasn't been set up it can't take any messages. So there are two things you'll need to do.

First, you'll need to set up your voice mail. You may need to contact your telephone service provider for setup instructions since not all systems are the same, but here's how it usually works. From your home phone, call your own number so you reach your voice mail. You should get the message that your mailbox hasn't been set up, and will be prompted for an access code to get to the setup menu. The access code is usually the last four digits of your phone number, and you'll be prompted to change it to something else as part of the setup. Through the setup main menu you can record your greeting and set up other options like the ring count before the voice mail answers. Set it for a number larger than the setting on your telephone answering machine. (I have my answering machine set to 4 rings, and voicemail set to 6.)

Step two is to verify the ring setting on your answering machine. Four rings is a common default setting, but it's adjustable on the phone. Most newer phones have menus that you access from the handset to set change settings, while older models have a switch on the base unit.

Once the mailbox is set up and you have your answering machine set to pick up first, everything will work as you want.

Phone shows a voice mail but no message on phone

The phone's voice mail indicator works with the voice mail function from your phone service provider. When your line is busy or goes unanswered (depending on how it's set up), the message is recorded by your service provider at their end, and you need to retrieve it. Most systems give a "stutter dialtone" when you pick up the phone to make a call (a few short bursts of dialtone before it becomes steady) to tell you when there's a waiting message. The message waiting light on the phone lets you know in case you don't pick the phone often.

Once you pick up your voice mail the light will go out and the dialtone will go back to normal. Check with your service provider for how to do it.

Voicemail indicator not happening when a message is left

I looked at the manual for this phone and there is no indicator that will work with a phone company voice mail. Here is the link http://www.manualsonline.com/mdownloads/9918a1f6-b60a-6214-4190-378efa0f8de1.pdf. I would suggest changing your AT&T voice mail to a Voice Mail to Email service like All Call Technologies. Your messages are sent to your email as MP3 audio attachments that you listen to on your computer. This way even if your lines are busy you can listen to your messages.

You are asking about changing you voice mail and phone system settings. Your phone can work on several different Panasonic phone systems and you could have different voice mail systems as well.

The phone KX-T7633 has only a user guide that covers the basic features of the phone itself. You need a programming and installation manual for your phone system AND your voice mail. They are not the same part and have different manuals.

So, your first step is to find out the model number of your phone system and voice mail system.
