Emachines T4155, Pentium 4, Windows XP Home. After upgrading my cpu the system repeatedly reboots. It will boot all the way into Windows but reboot after a few minutes. I unchecked the "automatically restart" box but it still restarts. I was able to get into the control panel & see that the new cpu is recognized. My motherboard is new along with the power source. I checked the mfg website and the cpu is compatible with my motherboard. I have the most recent bios. It seems to be fine when in safe mode. Also, when I put the old cpu back in, everything is fine. Could there be a compatibility issue? This is the second cpu I tried & they both did the same thing.
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd floppy have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty power lead or fan lead can cause you problems computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly make sure ram modules and cmos batteries have dust free secure seatings and cmos battery has charge some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in you might not have enough computer ram not having enough computer ram will run your computer over its limits putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit and can cause memory dumps might be getting hot check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-February-2012/1490
Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail
you might have to many programs trying to or accessing the internet at the same time
scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager
applications you will see whats running
if you see anything you dont need running select end now and you might uninstall that specific
program if you or computer does not require it to run and
some unnecessary programs that could be jamming up your computer
also under processes see what is ticking over in the background again if you see something you
dont need to be and users you will see who is using your computer
you might need to add more computer ram
if you're not sure if a module is right for your system use the
Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line
from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system
you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility of the ram before making any purchase
hope this helps

brand and type of ur mobo, in moust of the time a restore to factory defaults is the solution, or go to hardware monitor and disable the fan speed sensor, or check on the mobo that the cpu fan conector is in the right place, if this will not fix le't me to know

SOURCE: upgrade cpu to 2.4 ghz? is it possible?
Yes you can upgrade up to 2.53ghz, as long as you also upgrade the fan and radiator assembly. Cooling is a must since heat is a major problem to avoid.

boot system into safe mode. locate the icon for my computer. right click and go to properties. locate the computer name tab and select it. find the radio button for "change" and click it. rename the computer to something considerably shorter then what you have. the system cannot boot and complete the logon process if the computer name is longer than 200 "bytes"

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

Also, the cpu is not overheating.
When original cpu is put back in, everything runs fine. Ram is 768mb. I'm not getting any error messages.
then it could be a compatability issue with the cpu if when you put the old cpu back in and everything works
Would the HAL possibly have something to do with the problem?
have you checked and cleaned both the ram modules and sockets and checked every power and data lead connection any loose or faulty connection can cause this problem you could use a multimetre at every connection power and data must travel through every working device and have a finishing point for a computer to be able to work
