I am having trouble playing a Hi-8 tape in my sony camcorder DCR-trv250

Hi, I am able to playback all my 8mm tapes except for one, the tape used to play back but now it doesn't play nor do I hear sound. All that shows up is a blue screen and when I press play or rewind I can hear it running but the 00:00:00 display is showing like: --:--:-- instead of showing numbers or time elapsed. I can see the time of the tape on the left that says 89 mins or something like that. All my other 8mm tapes play back except for this one and it used to play which is why I don't understand why it won't play now. Please advise. Thank You!

Looks like you have a blank area in the Tape. Try Fast forward and you will get again MM:SS:SS.

My sony dcr-trv250 ntsc does not play videos that were recorded on my old samsung scx904 or alittle older sony that my father in law had let us borrow before we got ours...why? and is there some way to...

Your DCR-TRV250 uses a Digital 8 system to record and playback information on its cassette whereas the older Analog 8mm machines used the analog system. Unfortunately the two are incompatible.

I have tape frome another video camera and I can not get it to play in my DCR-TRV250 video camera

All of the camcorders are designed to record and play on certain type of tape. If you try to record or play a different tape, it will not work.

example of different type of tapes are 8mm, digital 8. digital Etc. Your manual has all of the compatable tapes for your camcorder.

If you do not have your manual, use this link to download it for FREE

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRTRV250.PDF

look at page 15 for all supported tapes

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Audio

DCR-TRV250 Sony camcorder needs Tape Path Adjustment to provide you correct sound because due to wrong alignment of tape drive on video-head, nosiy audio is being read and processed.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
