SOURCE: black screen of HP notebook, but external monitor work

i 100% agree with you. i found out that my notebook is one of the recall product from HP. I sent it in for service. A week after the repair, the same problem is back again. So I call HP and they said that I have water damage on the board. I am 100% sure the notebook is no where need any liquid at all time. So they tell me if I want, they can fix it for me for $375. I would highly recommend everyone not to buy HP products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always have problem with HP products and I think they have the worst customer service of all. Once again, do not buy HP products!!!!

SOURCE: headset microphone will not work on my hp pavilion notebook

The in-/outputs may not be turned on at this time. Either check your settings in the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices or, if a small speaker is shown on the right of your toolbar below, double-click this to open the sound control panel.

My microphone not working

Dear,
Hardware troubleshooting Depending on whether you are using an internal or an external microphone, follow the steps below to see if the problem is with the hardware.Show all ' Hide allcollapse_individual_default.pngTest the internal microphoneThe internal microphone is located near the top of the notebook LCD display or near the bottom of the LCD display near the hinge. Use the following best practices to capture sound more easily.
  1. Adjust the notebook screen to place the microphone in the best direction for receiving sound.
  2. Click Start , enter sound in the search field and select Sound Recorder from the list.
  3. Click Record and speak into the microphone. Save the file to an easily-accessible location, such as the desktop.
  4. To play back the recorded sound, open the file using Windows Media Player.
  5. When using the internal microphone, choose an environment without background noise.
  6. If the recorded sound does not play back, continue to the next section of this document.
collapse_individual_default.pngTest the external microphoneVerify that the microphone port and the microphone are working properly.
  1. Test the microphone on a known, working portable tape recorder, another computer, or a device that accepts the microphone connector.
  2. Click Start , enter sound in the search field and select Sound Recorder from the list.
  3. Click Record and speak into the microphone. Save the file to an easily-accessible location, such as the desktop.
  4. To play back the recorded sound, open the file using Windows Media Player.
  5. If the recorded sound does not play back, continue to the next section of this document.
  6. If the microphone successfully records the voice, test the record function on the computer. If the microphone does not work properly on another computer or on a tape recorder, try using a different microphone.
collapse_individual_default.pngSet the default microphoneIf the external microphone is set as the default recording device, uninstall and reinstall the audio driver to change the default recording device to the internal microphone. The internal microphone should be the default recording device. To change the default recording device:
  1. Click Start , enter device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.
  2. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers list.
  3. Right-click the audio driver , select Uninstall from the drop-down menu, and then click OK to confirm that you want to uninstall the audio driver.
  4. After the audio driver is uninstalled, click Start , enter backup into the search field, and then select HP Backup and Recovery Manager from the list.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the audio driver.
The internal microphone is now set as the default recording device. Basic troubleshooting
The following are some basic troubleshooting tools that you can use to restore your microphone's functionality, depending on your operating system and/or software preferences. However, it is recommended that you first run the HP Support Assistant as it can scan your current system configuration to automatically determine if your notebook requires updated software and device drivers.

Microphon driver

All drivers for this PC can me found at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3650962#N142
Generally speaking, however, microphones do not have drivers. You should make sure that the recording volume for your microphone is turned up.
How to adjust microphone volumeTo adjust the volume for your microphone in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start vistastartbutton.jpg, type mmsys.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. In the Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab.
  3. Click Microphone, and then click Properties. Note Make sure that Working appears under Microphone. If Working does not appear, click Microphone, and then click Set Default.
  4. In the Microphone Properties dialog box, click the Custom tab.
  5. Select or clear the Microphone Boost check box.
  6. Click the Levels tab.
  7. Adjust the volume slider to the level that you want, and then click OK.
  8. Click OK to close the Sound dialog box.

How to switch on microphone?????????/

First, confirm your laptop has a microphone. I am assuming, as you have posted your question, that it does.
Go first to your Control Panel, switch to classic view if you are using XP and small icons if in Vista or Windows 7. Look for some icon such as Sound or Sound and audio devices and click to enter it.
Now here is some divergence in methods.
XP
Enter the tab near the top of the window labeled as Voice. In the Voice recording section, confirm that there is a Default Device. If there isn't, click the drop-down arrow and choose on if there is one available. Sadly, if there is not, then I do not know how to help you. My expertise lie more in Vista and 7.
Vista & 7
Once inside of Sound, enter the Recording Tab and look for some type of microphone. Double click on the Microphone and at the bottom of the screen, there should be a "Device Usage" area and click the box next to it and choose "use this device (enable)" and click ok.
Hopefully one of these two methods should get your microphone working. I apologize if it doesn't. More information on your part may be helpful.
One last side note. There are two jacks on most laptops. If you are using an external microphone, you may be plugged into the output jack as opposed to the input.

Microphone problem

Hi!

integrated microphone really wont work on xp. it's either there's njo choice for us or they are still working on it (which i don't believe). Sorry but the system was designed for Windows Vista that's why, there's no driver designated for XP.

Thanks,
Karlox™ :)
