SOURCE: which sd card to buy

I would recommend a 2GB card. That will give you maximum storage. There are bigger SDHC cards, but the compatibility is somewhat reduced.  Buy from any reputable store. Avoid prices that are extremely low, these are likely to be counterfeit cards.

SOURCE: UpDated Firmware for the JVC GZ-HD7U.

There currently are no updates for the camcorder, they discontinued the camcorder shortly after it hit stores.. seemed to have alot of issues.
To the other user with the similar issues. The camcorder isn't the same as a DV camcorder and you may not be able to capture live. My suggestion would be to mount the camera using the USB cable and copying the video files from the camcorders internal hard drive to your desired location.
You may need an application to convert the videos, I suggest MpegStream Clip. They have a version for PC and Mac.

HI, I FOUND A METHOD TO WORK WITH TOD FILES,FROM EVERIO, BUT IS NECESARY,COREL VIDEO STUDIO 12 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, ANY TOD FILE YOU WANT PREVIOUSLY RECORDED YO HAVE TO PUT IN TO THE TIMELINE TO EDIT AND LOOCK FOR OPTIONS" SHARE" ( FINAL RENDERING)FOLLOW THIS STEPS: FIRST: VIDEO ON TIMELINE TO EDIT, 2. PRESS SHARE LOOCK FOR CREATE VIDEO, IS GOING TO APPAER A WINDOW WITH NEW OPTIONS, 3 LOOKS FOR MPEG OPTIMIZER NEXT THE FILE IS GOING TO RENDER IN FORMAT MPEG , 4 ASSIGN THIS FILE ON YOUR PC WHETEAVER YOU WANT TO BE SAVEDT.HIS TAKE ALMOST SECONDS ( JUST TO CONVERT WITH OUT ANY ARRANGEMENT TO YOUR VIDEO, I RECOMEND TO CONVERT THIS FILE AND YOU HAVE A NEW MPEG EXTENSION FILE WITH VERY GOOD PROPERTIES TO WORK WITH ANY SOFTWARE YOU DECIDE NEXT, IS BETTER THAN POWER DIRECTOR BECAUSE WITH POWER DIRECTOR I NOTICED A LOSSS IN QUALITY, ALSO THERE ARE FRAMES FREZEED IF SOMEBODY SEE MY POST I WUOLD LIKE TO HAVE A CONFIRMATION ABOUT THIS PROCCES THERE AREN'T ANY LOSS IN VIDEO QUALITY , FOR ME LOOKS VERY GOOD BUT I LET THIS TO PEOPPLE MORE EXPERIENCED TRAY AN CONFIRM MY METHOD

SOURCE: jvc everio GZ-MC500 does not recognize High

Beyond 2GB SD Card this model can not support. Why? because this model carries the logo SD, where as 2gb is the maximum, although there are some companies manufacturing SD with the capacity of more 2 GB but this is illegal(not standard for SD) do not conform with SD. New models can support HCSD (High Capacity SD) as far as 32GB can be found in the market. Hope this helps

What is the maximum SD capacity that jvc everio gz mg57 can support?

You may use any size SD card. Bear in mind that SD cards only go up to 2GB. This camera will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

Make sure you have an SD card, 2GB or smaller. This camera will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

What does it mean when I get a message that says "please insert memory card" on my JVC Everio GZ-MG21U?

Make sure you're using an SD card, not a higher-capacity SDHC card. The GZ-MG21U works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards.

Hi I inserted a new 8GB sd and the camera keeps trying to re-format. GZ-MC 200

There are no 8GB SD cards. A card that size is actually an SDHC card. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Unless your manual specifically says that your camera can use an SDHC card, then it won't be able to. The maximum size of an SD card is 2GB. If you need more space, just carry a couple of cards and swap them, like people used to do when they filled up a film.

I have the JVC above and it requires an SD card. I inserted an SDHC card and it gave me an error. SD and SDHC are not the same? When I did try to but SD card only still on its label has SDHC. To be honest...

You are correct. SD and SDHC are not the same.

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 2GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 2GB capacity.

SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. It was a technical evolution which broke the 4GB maximum capacity of SD cards and allows up to 32GB. In turn they are eventually due to be superseded by SDXC cards (ecure Digital eXtended Capacity) which allow a maximum of 2TB.

No disc for my JVC Everio GZ-HD7U

You don't need the disc. Buy Corel's latest videostudio x2 for editing. To extract the video files from camera just plug into computer with USB cable and search the camera for files.

I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG21EK Camcorder can anyone tell me the maximum sd card that you can use with this camcorder

There is no limit beyond the limits of the SD cards themselves. The JVC Everio GZ-MG21EK camera DOES NOT support SDHC cards, so you are restricted to the smaller capacities of the non-SDHC SD cards. I am successfully using a 2GB SD card in this model.
