HI,
I'm building a budget PC to run under Ubuntu 8.10 Operating System.
I am stuck at the first hurdle - getting my motherboard to boot up!
Have installed an Intel D845GBV Motherboard into a new case & 400w ATX PSU.
Have correctly connected the 20 PIn power and the 4 pin 12v connectors.
The board is fitted with an Intel celeron 2.4 GHZ CPU and 512MB DDR 266hz memory.
I have connected the following also:
CRT monitor via onboard VGA port.
The front panel leads (Power switch, Power LED, Reset switch, HDD led, Front panel USB cable, Front Panel Audio cable)
The optical drive and HDD to the relevant IDE ports.
PROBLEM DESCRITION:
When I switch the psu ON from the ON/OFF button at the psu, the fan above the CPU is active, I can hear the HDD and then the all activity stops. The whole process lasts about 7 Seconds. There is no display on the monitor and no error bleeps from the onbaord speaker.
The green power LED on the board remains ON.
Nothing happens by pressing the power or the re-set switches on the front of the case.
The only way I can re-start the above activity is by switching OFF the PSU and then as soon as I switch the PSU back ON - the activity as described above repeats.
Which I pressume is the BIOS setting for ''power on'' post power failure?
Any ideas on what has gone?
Thank you all for your valuable time.
Douglas
