GE GDS18LBP water inlet value - is it bad ?

I have a GE GDS18LBP fridge. Recently it stopped making ice. I have determined that no water is entering the ice maker fill tray. I have also verified that water from the basement is flowing from the house water outlet throgh the tube and into the fridge's water inlet valve. (The filter has been completely removed for verification that water is entering the water inlet value. I suspect the inlet valve is bad. Is there a way to determine if it needs to be replaced ?

Look in the freezer and make you the fill tube in not froze up if it is you have a valve that is dripping and then it freezes up the tube. if that is what you have you will need a new valve.

SOURCE: GE PROFILE PSS26msrd Ice maker

if the water dispenser is working normally and ice is not producing, take thr water filter out rinse it with hot water and put it back, this is the important thing to do after you put the water filter back you must hold the water filter reset button at least 3 seconds to reset the system and it should working fine.

SOURCE: Ice maker not working

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

SOURCE: ge ice maker wont make ice , no water entering

Take the front cover off of the ice maker.  Under the cover there are some test points,  V stands for valve and should have 120,  L stands for line and should have 120,  N is nuetral and should have continuity to ground. If all of these check good replace the ice maker, If not troubleshoot the wiring.  The fastest way to find out if it is the ice maker it to jumpre the two middle terminals on the ice maker plug.  If it spits out water replace the ice maker.

Ice-maker does not work. water valve seems to be working.

There are 3 things that can prevent an ice maker from not working.
1- Temperature of freezzer- Temp must be below 6 degrees on most ice makers.
2- Water inlet valve- Depending on how your ice maker cycles it calls for water for 7.2 seconds. If you have ice and water though the door you have a dual valve and the ice maker selinoid ine the inlet may be bad. Also make sure water is getting to valve. Just because water is coming through the door does not mean water is entering fridge. There is a reservoir in fringe that holds around 3 gallons of water that can still make water come out the door without water entering fridge.
3- Faulty Ice maker- over time the winding and other components can get worn out and fail.

First check the temperature in the freezer.
Next check the inlet valve. To do this you need to remove the hose going from the inlet valve to ice maker and switch with the hose leading to door. Push the actuator in the door to call for water and see if water enters the ice maker. If it does inlet is good. Replace Icemaker. If not replace inlet valve. There may be a problem with the icemaker still but wont know until inlet is fixed.

Ice maker stopped working . Model 9552811

Are you check for some clogged tube? Determine if your water fill spout in the freezer is plugged with ice. If so, no new ice can be made. Try clearing it out or melting the ice by running a hair dryer on it for a few minutes.

Turn your refrigerator around to look at the back side to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve behind the fridge. If the water is not properly connected, there's no water to make ice.

Additionally, use an ohm meter to test for coil continuity. If the ohm meter shows there is no continuity, then you will need to replace the water inlet valve.

My icemaker works, but does not dispense water

The inlet water valuve has two differant sides, one for ice the other for water, it may need replaced. Remove water line on value out to water in door and have someone push the water leaver in the door(like your getting a glass of water) if you feel pressure at the value where you disconnected then the value is good. the water line in the back inside of the fridge may be froze up, lower the temp in the fridge and give it a day. When you request water from door do you hear a clicking sound(you should).

Hi I have a GE Fridg. #GFSL6KEXALS Just has ice in bottom freezer, no water. Ice maker quit working, Does not seem to be filling with water.

Check the water line that goes from the house plumbing all the way to the inlet on the 'fridge. Are there any kinks? Dirt obstructing the line? You MUST BE VERY CAREFUL when pulling the 'fridge out to check. If you have a copper line, it takes NOTHING for one to kink. And as soon as it kinks...it's done.

My ice make stopped makin ice I changed the filter and it still wont work the light is blinking in the freezer

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Check the water inlet valve. It might be filled with ice. In this case thaw the water tube with a hair dryer to remove the blockage. Also check the water inlet valve's screen is not blocked. Clean the debris from it if there are some. If still the issue persists, then the water inlet valve might have gone bad which can be confirmed by testing it. This issue might be due to a defective defrost thermostat. Test your defrost thermostat to determine whether it has gone bad and replace it, if required.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

GE TFX22ZR side by side. ice maker not making ice

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.
