Do you mean it runs for 1 or 2 seconds and stops or it runs for minutes and stops? If it never really starts (runs for a second or less) then it is probably a capacitor start motor and the capacity has gone bad.

If it runs for minutes or more and then stops and subsequently restarts when it has cooled then the thermal overload switch is turning it off when the motor overheats. If the unit is not all that old, hasn't been run particularly hard and you have this problem every time you turn it on when it is just pumping up, (which is to say, there is no good reason for the motor to be overheated) then the thermal overheat switch is probably defective.

If the compressor is being run hard when this happens, then the unit is being overheated from heavier use than for which it was designed. If the interior of the compressor motor has a coating of saw dust or dust, it acts like an insulator and results in the motor heating more quickly than it should under normal circumstances. Also, if it is being used in a hot environment it will likewise have trouble cooling.

So, if it really doesn't run at all, it is probably the motor starting capacitor. If it happens when the compressor isn't really hot, then the thermal over-temperature switch is probably defective. If it gets genuinely hot, but without being run hard, then the motor might need to be cleaned because it is not cooling properly. If it happens when it is hot and it is hot because it has been run hard, then either don't run it as hard, cool it better or get a bigger compressor. If it is clean inside, not being run hard but still overheats, then I would look at a malfunction in the compressor portion of the unit having more friction than it should (bearings lubricated?) thus requiring more horsepower to run the compressor than the motor is designed to generate and results in overheating. Low voltage can also do the same.

At night its shuts down when the therm is satisfied, but trys to restart right away and when it does start it shuts down right away and just keeps doing this

The thermostat has a differential built into the temperature sensing operation. The differential is normally a degree or more. If the stat shuts down at 72 degrees it should not start the unit again until the temperature in the room reaches 73. If the AC runs and cools properly until it shuts down, I would check the thermostat. The AC can not restart immediately after it shuts off because the pressures in the system are too high at the compressor. It takes a few minutes for the pressures equalize allowing the compressor to start. If the stat tells the unit to start under high pressure, the compressor will shut down on overload. It will start and run after the pressure falls enough for the compressor motor to run.

A.c.compressor sometimes kicks on right away but

Hello, you try to measure the current with ampmeter. Read the current work on the template that is close to the terminal block. Likewise, in the terminal block wires may have poor contact

Compresser will not start up Fan runs but compressor just kicks on and right back off

Low freon. As soon as the compressor starts the low pressure side drops below operating pressure. The freon carries oil that lubricates the compressor. the low pressure switch shuts it down to protect it.

Turn on unit starts blowing cold air for about 5 minutes the compressor kicks off. will not come back on. you can turn it off and back on and compressor will start back up again for about 5...

soulds like when it starts the high pressure switch kicks it out when you turn the power off you equalize the pressures check you coils and filter they need to be cleaned most likely this is the problem

UNIT SHUTS DOWN AS SOON AS COMPRESSOR KICKS IN

Hi fdisc I feel quite sure your compressor is going straight to ground you need to get someone to check the comp, for its resistance and he or she will soon let you know for sure.

E4 in an innovair a/c

It sounds like you have a freon leak and may need a charge. When there is a leak, the compressor will run for awhile but without the proper charge, it will heat up and kick on on thermal overload. After the compressor cools, the unit will come back on. Have the unit serviced by a professional.

My AC

One might think so, YES the compressor is running till it gets hot and tripps on hi-temperature, and after it cools down awhile, the switch willcautomatically reset itself and back- & forth......Thank-you-very much!
