Want to upgrade my HP TouchSmart IQ504 Desktop PC 2.0GHz processor for a 3.1 ghz ?

First, have you ever changed/upgraded a CPU? It take quite a bit of research to upgrage. If you look at this spec of the Mobo your options are very limited, The Mobo only supports 2 different type Processors, 1, Core 2 Duo (Merom); http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/2683/Merom , 2 Core 2 Duo (Penryn): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penryn_(microprocessor) If you have a 64bit OS consider a memory upgrade, if you haven't already. Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Can I upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 duo 1.7

You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:

Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8-GHz) with 400-MHz front
side bus (FSB)
Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 710 TJ85 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB;
operates at a lower temperature than other processors
Intel Celeron M 340 (1.5-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Celeron M 330 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB

And you are limted to 2gb of ram max on this model.

Upgrade this notebook

Hi,
Yes you can upgrade that notebook.

The notebook is sold with 1GB DDR SDRAM which is upgradable to 2GB RAM, 2 slots 1x1GB in each slot.

The hard drive is usually 120GB SATA which you can put any drive in up to 320GB or 500GB (if you can get on of that size)

The processor is a core duo. It is upgradable but i wouldn't bother with that as 1.6GHz is more than sufficient.

Regards.

Celeron 540 upgrade

Aspire 4315 Specifications Specifications

Varies by specifications
Processor / Speed
Intel Celeron mobile processor 530/540/550 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.73/1.86/2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), supporting Intel 64 architecture
if you have a 2 Ghz processor installed, you will have to replace the motherboard to go with a faster CPU.. which will be spendy..
Hope this helps
