Acer 4720Z lost vista os

Grandson's laptop will no longer boot . Looks as if there
is no operating system. Tried an experiment loading xp pro and
noted the "hard drive could not be found."
Boots Acer Logo then black screen with unusable blinking horizontal cursor.

    I have an acer aspire 4720Z the computer said it needed to restart for an update and when it restarted the blue screen of death appeared then i tried restarting a few times and now the screen goes to the acer logo and straight to a black screen with a blinking line
    I dropped it once a week earlier could something have moved inside the computer??

Reason for " hardrive could not be found" error is that windows xp does not have the driver for the sata hardware included.
Hold down the ALT key and pressing the F10 keys when system starts up this should take you to the recovery of the notebook. Then follow on screen prompts this will restore notebook to factory installation.

Most likely the hard drive went out, do you hear a clicking noise or loud ticking coming from the laptop?

Does it give you any kind of message like " NTLDR missing."?

the only thing i could tell you is to try to reupdate the divers through the device manger if this does not work then you might of blown the soundcard in the machine

yu need to go to the the bios before you start the installation and change the Sata hard disk mode to IDE.then it will detect the hard disk.

Remove Vista OS and Replace With XP Pro
1. make sure your laptop is set to startup from a cd
2. after laptop finds the bootinfo from the cd and asks you to press any key to start from cd, press any key and xp setup will start.
3. in xp setup your going to need to delete your vista partitions, preferably all partitions and then proseed to install xp into a new partition.

4. proseed with the windows setup follow the instructions and configure your settings as you wish.
