Hello all and thanks for the help. To answer a few questions a Locator Light is the light inside the dimmer that shows you where the dimmer is at night. Another question was what kind of light well all of my house has Led lights and yes this dimmer is suited for Led lights. My electric box is a double box and there are 2 switches for light control in the box. 1 side is for the light over the dinning table and the other is for a light on the wall. What i have in the box are many black wires + in the botom of the box i have many white wires twisted together and i have 1 red wire thak is hooked up to the black wires. Also you mention in these solution's to contact Leviton witch i did many times and they just do not answer me. So my solution is to come here. Thanks all

You dont say what wires on on the dimmer, or what wires you have connected.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-...

  • Anonymous Aug 04, 2012

Wires i used are the load black to one black on dimmer and another non load black to the red wire on the dimmer. There are 2 red ones on the dimmer and one is for a 3 way connection.

Hello again Over the weekend I worked with my 3 black 6633-PL to try to get my locator light working. Believe me I put in many hours and I was working with my millimeter. No luck till today Sunday. I went to my bathroom witch I have another one just like the above but white. I took the white one out and replace one of my black ones and voila the locator light works just fine. I took the black one and put in the bathroom and still no locator light. So now I am sure that it is not an electrical problem but more of a dimmer problem. So why does the locator lights on the black dimmers do not work and before you ask yes they are all in the open side. So what now. These are over 20.00$ each and now I will need to get others but I am worried that if I get black one I will have the same problem. Is there another model and please do not forget that I have Dell lighting all over the house. Thanks

The original answer gave contact information for Leviton. It sounds like problem is with the dimmer. When you contact Leviton, I recommend that you use the word 'indicator light' instead of 'locator light' so they will immediately know what you are talking about.

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2012

It is Leviton that calls this locator lights. That are the words they use.

  • Gene Haynes Aug 08, 2012

I didn't see that in the product manual. otherwise I stand corrected, and Leviton will surely know what you are talking about. If not, then use indicator light to clarify, and expect Leviton to give great service.

Hello all. I did get news from Leviton and i need to send them back to them for a refund because there is something wrong with the black ones. The indicatore light does not go thru the black. The told me to make a small insisions on the top right corner and VOILA the indicator light does work. Just not strong anought to go thru the black plastic cover. So for me case is closed. Thanks all for your help

6633-pl is single-pole and 3-way dimmer made for max 600 watt incandescent or halogen load. This dimmer does not work for CFL or inductive loads such as motor.

I have no idea what a 'locator light' is?? Do you mean the LED indicator that shows when power is connected?

Troubleshoot section of manual does not show any solution for LED malfunction.

SOURCE: I have just installed 2 Leviton decora switch with

This is a single pole light switch and should be wired as any other SP switch. The only difference is that is has a pilot light. All the white neutral wires are tied together and then pushed back in the box with none connected to the switch. The grounds are tied together with a jumper wire connected to the green screw on the switch. That will leave you with 2 or more black wires. If you have just two normally you can connect them to the two screws on the switch and it does not matter which screws. However it may be that with the pilot light you need to connect the wire going to the light to the top screw and the power wire to the bottom or vice versa. Try both ways. If you have more than 2 black wires you need to connect the incoming power black wire and outgoing power black wires together and then jump to one of the screws on the switch. The black wire left over is the black wire going to the light itself. If none of this works then it is obvious the pilot light in the switch is burnt out.

SOURCE: leviton slide dimmer switch w/locator light light comes on but doesnt dim

What sort of light is it , dimmer switches normally only work on Incandescent type lights not flourescent type.

Otherwise it sounds as if the dimmer function is faulty.

The Leviton page for Leviton 5613 does not have a troubleshoot.
Manual shows simple wiring diagram.
3-way switches will not operate lights if switches are wired incorrectly.
Check your ground wire is connected.
Leviton 5613 series is illuminated.
Check that both switches have 5613 number.
Swap switches and see if problem is inside switch.

SOURCE: changed out 3-way switch with

Look at 3-way drawing in 6633 manual.
Notice that device has to be installed to Hot wire.
Only one of your 3-way switches will have the Hot wire.

Change device with other 3-way switch.
Make careful note of which wire connects to dark-colored screw. This is the common screw.

SOURCE: We have Leviton push button

Wiring is not best suspect.
If all the Leviton devices were installed same time, they may be failing at same time due to lifespan.
For example, ordinary on-off switch is a mechanical device with mechanical parts, and mechanical switches last many years longer than wiring devices that have electronic parts.
Electronic devices usually have standard 1 year limited warranty.

I bought a Leviton 1201-PLC 15 Amp, 120 Volt, Toggle Pilot Light, Illuminated ON to replace a traditional 3 way switch (without a pilot). I replaced it by connecting the existing wires to the new switch in...

Your screw terminals are 2-brass and 1-dark.
Dark screw is considered 'common'
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#3-way

Leviton shows a 3-way 1203-2, but not 1201
Wiring diagram indicates that pilot light is ON whenever switch has power.
http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=2681§ion=10046&minisite=10026

Check your instruction sheet that pilot light is supposed to turn on-off with Load.
I don't think it is, without additional terminal on switch for neutral wire.
And then it would only work on switch located closest to light.

You can wire this type of thing separately.
Buy ordinary pilot light or indicator light from WW Grainger.
Look at diagram on following image:

Dimmer turns lights off and on but doesn't dim

If you have it hooked up correctly, and only comes on and does not dim, you have a defective dimmer. Products are not made as good as they used to be. Return it.

How does the illuminated light work inside a Leviton light switch? Since there is no neutral (white) wire hooked up to the switch itself? Does the switch illumination light have its current flow into the...

The neon lamp inside of the switch draws very little current (milli, or mico amps) so there is no significant current flowing to ground.

As for your real question, there are several various types of 3-way pilot switches:
Load on: Pilot on
Load off: Pilot on
Some 3-way pilot switches have an external lead which allows them to be configured either way.
If both of your switches are the same type and are wired correctly, they should work the same.
If you suspect that one is defective, try swapping them.

Blinking ceiling lights

It's not the dimmer causing the problem it's the bulbs. They are like mini florescent lights and are not dimable. You will need to either change them to regular incandescent lights or purchase the dimable type of energy efficient bulbs. They are a bit pricey but they will work. Let me know and don't forget to rate me. Thanks
