Have you tried to hold the power button down for 5 seconds? if that doesn't work, it's possible that when you click the shut down the last option used was the hibernate option. when you click the orb click the arrow pointing to the right next to the power indicator and make sure it's set to shut down and not hibernate

SOURCE: my laptop, acer aspire 5332 is not functioning

First thing I would try would be to backup your data and do a system restore, on Acer machines the restore is usualy achieved by alternating tapping the "alt" key and "f10" during post (the first black background screen) this should enter the sytem restore facility then just follow the prompts. Make sure you back up your data first because this will wipe your boot drove and re-install the operating system to factory defaults. Dont forget, any software that you have installed since having the machine will have to be installed again.

SOURCE: My CQ61-411WM doesn't boot anymore. Symptoms:

Hi

If the graphics card was intact, the external monitor test would have given you an image.

Unfortunately, this seems like a graphics card problem common to this manufacturer (google HP Compaq Notebook Graphics Problems).

This fault can be repaired only by specialist laptop repairers with specialist tools.

The repair is called Reballing the Ball Grid Array.

Reballing has a marginal success rate and even if successful, the fault can reoccur. A typical professional repair warranty would give you 3-6 months post-repair warranty.

Sometimes the surface of the graphics chip is too damaged to repair.

This repair can be expensive as it may involve several time and labour intensive rounds of disassembly, repair, reassembly and testing.

If you do opt for repair, ensure that the repairer is a specialist, properly equipped with an Infra Red Workstation, experienced in this specific type of repair, is willing to do a No-Fix-No-Fee Repair and offers a Repair Warranty.

If the laptop's warranty has expired and the repair cost seems high to you, it may be time to consider a new laptop.

Sorry for the bad news.

Hope this helps.

EMachines eMD620 suddenly shutdown and not boot anymore

When this happened was the laptop overly hot? If the laptop's head got too high it could have shutdown to protect itself. It wouldn't boot until the heat had disparate. Sit you laptop aside for about 30 minutes and see if it will boot then. If it does you might want to check out a cool mat.

Black screen when turned onno display

There are several reasons that your Toshiba laptop screen may not come on, even if the laptop appears to be running, and several options you may try to get your screen back up and running without an expensive service call.

Common causes for a blank screen include a backlight that is turned off, a display toggled to an external monitor and improper shutdown errors.

To avoid blank screen errors after your current error is fixed, make sure to follow all instructions in your user's guide to care for your Toshiba computer.

Shine a flashlight directly at your screen and look for an image.

If you see one, this means the backlight on your laptop is off but the screen is still working. This backlight normally turns off only when your screen is closed.

Look for a small metal or plastic pin near one of the screen hinges.

The screen pushes this pin in when it is closed, so if the pin is stuck in the screen closed position, the backlight will remain off.

Tap the pin several times to release it.

You may need to use a small object, such as a pencil tip or straightened paper clip, to reach it on some models.

Monitor Toggle

Press and hold down the "Fn" key if you do not see an image when you use the flashlight.

Tap the "F5" key several times while the "Fn" key is pressed.

This will cycle your screen through the various options that toggle the display to an external monitor.

Attach an external monitor, restart the computer and try this method again if no image appears on the laptop screen.

Click "Start," "Control panel," "Hardware and sound," then "Device manager "using the external monitor if you get an image there but cannot toggle the image back to your LCD.

Select the "Monitor" option to expand your selection and select your LCD monitor from the device list.

Click the "Driver" tab and select "Update" to update the driver, as this error is likely caused by a software driver error.

Force Restart

Press and hold the power button until the computer shuts down completely.

Check the indicator lights at the edge of your laptop to see if the computer is truly off or if it has simply gone into hibernation mode.

If it is off, all lights will be off except the battery-related lights if you have a charger plugged in. In hibernation mode, the power light will blink slowly.

Press the power button to restart the computer again after leaving it off for 15 to 20 seconds. This may fix the problem.

If the blank screen returns or you get a flash of images and then a blank screen, move on to the next step.

Force Power Down

Unplug your laptop from the power source.

Remove the battery by pressing outward on the battery latch and pulling the battery unit completely out of the computer.

Press the power button several times to completely discharge the computer.

Replace the battery and plug the computer back in after about 30 seconds.

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

If you get an error screen upon startup, choose to restart Windows normally.

This error is caused by improper shutdown procedures.

Hope this helps

G4 power light flashes

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

If neither of these processes do not work, have your RAM memory checked, as this could be a factor in your G4 not booting up.

One other factor to consider, especially given consideration of the flashing light and no boot up, depending on the type of G4 mac you have, would be the power supply, which is what gives your G4 the power to boot up and function.

Hope this helps.

Eee pc won't turn on (I think have already posted this, not sure)

Sounds like a classic case of hardware failure!!!!!!! possibly your motherboard, start by removing the battery, hard drive and optical drive.
disconnect the laptop monitor and connect the laptop to an external monitor.
remove the memory modules clean the brass contacts with a eraser and place back in the machine 1 at a time to check to see if they work, remember to plug in the AC power suppy, if you see the post screen then its a memory issue and you can then reconnect your laptop monitor to see if it lights up, if everything works but the monitor then its the inverter or backlight that has blown and is easily repairable saving you money on a brand new screen
