Replace a flexible curved shaft

I have a Trim N' Edge 25cc trimmer and the flexible curved shaft snapped at the housing end. I can get the flexible shaft out by removing the saft from the engine, but I can't figure out how to remove the housing & eyelet peice from the shaft housing. Is the housing and flex. shaft all one unit or is there a trick to remove the housing (trimmer head) so I can replace the flexible shaft?

IT STARTS BUT TRIMMER PART WONT TURN

Disconnect the two halves of the shaft. It should be pretty easy. Inspect the drive cable to make sure it hasnt snapped. Also make sure the cable is inserted into the female half. Its a square shaped cable that spins and drives the string trimmer head.

How to replace the lower flexible shaft

Hi enriquemon,
To remove the drive shaft, loosen the clamp that is just above the protective shield and remove the set screw attaching the drive shaft tube to the trimmer housing. Remove the drive shaft and if you want clean and inspect for damage. You are installing a new one so it is not an issue. Coat the shaft with a high quality, multipurpose lithium grease. Make sure the ends of the shaft are properly located in the drive adapters when assembling. Depending on the amount of time it is used, the drive shaft should be cleaned and greased every year or two. I hope this is helpful to you. Any questions welcome. All the best and good luck.

Broken or worn shaft flex. Motor runs and head moves a little with no power. How to remove shaft from housing?

First, about 4 Torx screws hold the end of the flex-drive tube to the engine housing. Remove those. Then, remove the throttle cable from the throttle plate shaft of the carburetor. If any covers are in the way, remove them.If the handle has a stop switch on it, then you will want to remove the wires from the ignition module (unless you can pull the tube out far enough away to access the flex drive. If the stop switch is on the front engine cover, then fine.
Once the tube is free and clear, just grap the end of the flex drive and pull it out. If you reinstall it, reverse it end for end and grease it well with lithium-based grease. Post back if needed.

The flexible shaft on my Ryobi EL15 trimmer shifts

Check the outer tube has not moved forward out of its housing at the engine end as this would make the inner too short.

I strip the cable inside my lawn trimmer it would turn my cutter below. Is this something I can repair or must I take it to shop?

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. When you say you stripped the cable I am assuming that your talking about the flexible drive shaft. This can be replaced at home. However,.... ou did not state if this was a gas or electric model. At the moment I am assuming it is a 25cc Gas trimmer. To replace the flexible drive shaft the motor will have to be unmounted from the drive shaft housing. It will have 4 flat sides on each end that must mate correctly into the slots of the motor and the power head or you will not be able to re-mount the engine.

With a good model number I can provide you with a source of the replacment parts and probably what mounting hardware that has to be removed to change the fl;exible drive shaft.

Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I load string in a P2500 string trimmer??

Remove spool by firmly pulling on tap button. Cut two pieces of line (0.080) about 12 feet. Insert the two ends of the line into the small holes inside the spool. Wind the lines evenly and tightly on the spool. Wind the string in the direction of the arrows on the spool. Push the lines into the notches on the spool leaving three or five inches hanging there. Insert the two ends in the two holes in the hub. Align the notches on the spool with the holes in the hub and push it in until it snaps into place. Pull on the lines to release them from the notches.
