Hi, Check main power board for bad Caps. Replace caps with same rated or better caps.(Capacitors). Look for bulged or leaking caps. Good luck

where there is smoke, pops something went---find another shop that knows what they are doing---never plug in a set that smoked!

On the power supply board there is a VA & VS voltage that you need to check to see if they are reading right. On the inside of the panel there is a lable that will tell you what the Voltages should be for VA & VS. If they are ok, they you probabaly have a bad Y board, if the votages are wrong then you need to replace the power supply. And check for bulged caps on power supply too.

As a matter of fact your akai is a samsung tv.
the replacement of that board is easy since it is all plug-ins and you can find that power supply in quite a few places,
Just google that part number.

It sounds very much like an output of the main power supply has failed; possibly the one that supplies lower voltage DC to the control circuits, probably 5-12 volts regulated.

I looked around for a power supply for you and turn up nothing. I see your problem. Nobody is selling. Best just to fix the board itself.
What I would do is get a Service Manual over the internet. Nodevice.com is selling the Service Manual. Usually cost under $20. It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, schematics, test points, and part number lists. And most cases the new part cost less than $15 by searching on the internet with the part number.
It's possible that it's just a bad capacitor or transformer on the power supply board. Cheaper than replacing the board.

You have just found out why the plasma sets are fading from the market.
Both of you may have a power supply problem. The PS in plasma TVs is more complex than in LCD sets and therefore more likely to fail.

Since Akai is so poor on product support, they may not even have parts since that set was made by Samsung who also doesn't want to hear anything about them (their site doesn't recognize the Akai model number), you may be out of luck.

In researching Akai, I find large number of folks who will not buy any Akai anythings again.
This kind of performance is unusual for a Japanese company.

what do you have connected? you can try withe basics. if you can try a rg-6 cable into the f connector. then try a dvd on video 1 and change the input to input 1 and see. if nothing else try a hard reboot
thats unpluging the tv for about 2 min. then reconnect.
