I've got a "UniBrand" standalone

Open and find out if the burner is an IDE PC type drive.. If so you can replace it with any brand DVD burner as long as the fitting is the same. Most of them are universal size. . Please note some expensive players have custom firmware loaded into the drive before installation. How you can test this is , borrow any DVD burner and replace it in your UniBrand and then see if your remote commands like eject/ play/ stop works on this burner. If it does not you will have to source your burner from UniBrand itself.

you might want to try and update the firmware on the DVD burner, find out with the vendor if there is a fw version and how to do it, if not I would suggest hiring a professional.

I have always been using Nero burn software with my LG GSA-2166D DVD RW. Now I bought Nero Multimedia Suite 10. No any writing process has been successful. I have since yesterday spoiled 10 DVD's....

speed of source data is too slow = the hard disk cannot deliver the data fast enough and the burning process stops; this is a sign of a severely fragmented file system and very charged background processes: defragment your hard disk, stop using other programs when burning a disk and use 8X as a recording speed.
Track Following Error = the laser head in the burner is no longer capable of following the track it has itself burned - the lens is dirty, clean it.

My dvd burner stops spining on dvd's but no cd's

Your dvd must be not supporting the burning process on dvd's and thus stops spinning or it may be in a error condition.

Will start burning CD then says there's an error

there are a lot of similar issues out on the net about this, dells computers I would switch to nero or any other burner software and see if it clears up, you might want to contact dell about it as well as I can see by the net forums its wide spread, could be a limited use lic issue.

I cant burn or play dvd

try to burn at a slower speed, turn off the screen saver and virus scanner? if these try to run while a burn is going it can cause an error, try to defrag the hardrive if needed before the burn, try another brand of media , check for software updates on the burning software

PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-106 (not a burner)

For the decoders, I would try here :

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Dscaler_MPEG_Filters.htm

Hopefully, these will help you to get the DVDs to run without having to shell out for them. I'm curious to see whether or not this helps with the C&C3, as it does seem very coincidental that this game should stop working at exactly the same time as your DVDs stop playing because your upgraded WMP no longer has the necessary codecs...

Firmware update problem (SH-W162C)

You need to insert the Windows CD install disk in the DVD drive and reboot the computer. Let the Windows CD boot up and allow it to go through the motion till you reach the end . It will ask what you intend doing? your answer is to press R for "Console" do this and you will see the Command line just like the old DOS CMD line. Type chkdsk let the computer repair itself take the disk out and hey presto! Your alive again.
