Can't open Epson DX5000 to remove object stuck inside

After my young toddler placed a foreign object in my printer the paper will no longer feed ,i have tried without success to open up the casing to remove what is stuck inside but cannot seem to be able to access the interior of the unit ,any ideas?I have managed to remove all the screws holding it together except one which seams to be underneath where the scanner unit is attached but doesn't seam to be removable.

Sounds a little draconian, but sometimes if you invert th peinter and give it a tap, the foreign object may fall out. Just don't leave it upside down too long!

DX5000 says paper jam but isn t one

First of all, we need to establish that there is nothing causing an obstruction, this may not be prominent on first glance. Things like hair clips, staples, pen lids and all other small objects can be dropped into the paper feed unnoticed.
Step One: Removing the power cable.
Please remove both the power and data cable before attempting any of the following solutions.
Step Two: Foreign Objects.
If possible, use a flashlight or inspection lamp to illuminate the paper feed section (located at the rear of the printer where paper is inserted) and check for any foreign objects. Sometimes even having a thorough look won't uncover objects stuck further down, in this case (Do not attempt this if the printer is large and/or heavy),taking great care, you may need to turn the printer upside down and give it a little shake to dislodge the blockage.
Step Three: Only attempt if step one did not resolve the problem.
If the error occurred after a genuine paper jam, it is possible that there may be one or multiple pieces of paper still lodged in the printer, these could be in the rollers (The small cylindrical feeders that the paper passes between) and sometimes stuck underneath or either side of the printhead itself (The printhead assembly is the unit the cartridges are placed in). These pieces of paper may be covered in ink which can make them very hard to spot, arming yourself with a flashlight and a pair of tweezers should make things a lot easier for you.
After steps One and Two are completed, reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on, if this still doesn't solve the problem and you are sure there is no obstruction then move onto step Four.
Step Four: The Encoder Strip
If the paper jam error still persists, it is possible there maybe dirt, ink or grease on the encoder strip. This problem can confuse the printer and can often trigger the paper jam error, this is due to the grease/dirt blocking the laser that is shone down the encoder strip.

To clean the strip, you will need a small cloth (preferably a lint free cloth like those used to clean spectacles).
Open the lid of the printer where you find the ink cartridges and printhead, running all the way along and almost dead centre, you will find the encoder strip, a semi-transparent strip of plastic. If it looks dirty, place one hand on the left end of the strip and hold firmly (this is to prevent the strip from stretching or breaking when you clean the dirt with the other hand). Gently rub the strip horizontally up and down the entire length, taking care not to assert too much pressure.
Once this process is completed, you may reconnect the power and turn the printer on.
I hope this helps solve your issue. If however you have any further questions please feel free to Tweet us @RefreshCarts or post on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/RefreshCartridges

Paper feeder stuck

If the paper feeder stuck, do the following:
  1. Gently pull any jammed paper out from the output tray or sheet feeder.
  2. If paper is stuck inside, open the printer cover and remove the jammed paper, including any torn pieces. Then close the printer cover.
  3. If paper remains near the sheet feeder, press the paper feed roller lever inside the paper feeder to release the jammed paper, then carefully pull it out.
  4. Load the paper correctly.
  5. Press the cp_button_14.gif stop button to resume printing.
  • If the printer continues to jam or misfeed paper, and you are certain that there are no foreign objects lodged down inside the paper feed area, your printer may require service. Please call Epson technical support for further assistance.

    Printer does not load paper

    Hi Good day!!!
paper feeding in crooked or at an angle problem, is common to most printers. HERE'S SOME GENERAL INFO THAT MIGHT HELP: It's possible that the paper may be running into a foreign object and not feeding in at all. A foreign object could also cause the paper to stall, or even feed-in crooked. Remove all the paper and use a flashlight to look carefully into the paper feed-in area. Look for a pen, pencil, push pin, paper clip, candy, etc. If you can't see anything, then actually pick your printer up and turn it so the paper opening is facing down and shake it a little, side to side. Your trying to dislodge anything that might be stuck in the paper entrance area. If nothing falls out, then turn it back over and use the flashlight to once again look inside that area. Sometimes you'll see an object that may have moved over into view while you were shaking the printer. Any foreign object might block the paper from actually being able to move forward, so then the printer thinks there is no paper installed. You may have to even remove the Top Cover to be able to get a better view of that paper feed area. Unfortunately, just removing that cover is not always that easy, especially on the newer printers. You may need a Service Manual for reference, disassemble and troubleshooting. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals for most printers, at www.2manuals.com (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 +/- ). Even if there is not a foreign object stuck in that area, with the top cover off, you might just possibly see what the problem is and even be able to correct

    Paper jam light continues

Even if you have cleaned the printer externally tiny bits of paper might have got stuck in the interior of the printer and are obstructing the movement of the roller..Also there might have been some paper clips, pins etc., that might have got stuck in it..
Also printers are hyper sensitive to dust..It might be causing this problem...
Take a cotton swab dip it in alcohol and press it against the roller whilw pressing the paper feed button....
If this doesn't work you should try a longer procedure...Remember you have to look real hard..
