My 2001 ford taurus recently started to overheated even I drove, I kept filling with water. I was on my way to the store to get a thermostat when the engine started making a clicking noise when I would try to accelerate and couldn't get any rpms. The check engine light started blinking stop I went to pull over as I was slowing down to stop the car stalled out as if I had run out of gas. I can not get it to start now, it sound like it wants to start when I turn the key but just won't turn over. I checked my oil and it was fine. I got it home now and plan on starting to with on it within the next couple days but wanted to get some suggestions before I started.

I would take the thermostat out and leave it out, and make sure the cooling system is full.
Drive it to a shop or parts store and get the computer scanned for trouble codes. The codes will point you in the direction of what to look for.
Once you take care of the check engine light problems you can try putting the new thermostat back in.

I'm not able to get the car to start at all now. Someone said to check my MAP sensor but of don't know what that would have to do with the car overheating and dying. I'm gonna start with new spark plugs and replacing thermostat.

If it won't start, you may have blown one or both head gaskets. I would probably perform a compression test first while you have the plugs out. Also check for spark at the plugs and fuel at the injectors.

I was afraid it might be the head gaskets but my oil doesn't have that milky color so I an truly hoping that it isn't that. Thanks for the suggestions I'll let you if anything worked or if I'll be taken my engine apart next week lol

engine mechanical problems most likely, have the compression tested or a cylinder balance test run.

ur oil pump may be failin-there r sensors everywhere on new cars-keepin u from starting as safety measure-computer systems r complex n things dont always show on 1 scan-they kinda hav the mindset of a pc

Testimonial: "Thank you. I have spoken with 2 other mechanics who said the same thing regarding the oil pump. It's being looked at. So I'll post more once I know"

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Taurus. Problem begins after 10 minute

Yes, the chip in the key is not programmed to the computer for some reason. May have to take to dealer to fix this problem. The anti theft light coming on is a bad sign, where, for security reasons, if the key doesn't match up with what the antitheft computer expects, then the car's engine shouldn't work.

SOURCE: My car won't start, I

need more information, does it crank, and not start? Or no crank? If it cranks and does not start, the first suspect would be a crank sensor, they do that...if it does not crank, the battery has to be charged first to get it to crank-we can go on from there...

Cannot diagnose or run temp. Sealer for what i believe is head blown because car wont start it cranks but sputters and kills battery?

Sounds like head gasket again, but may be more serious this time. Overheating is not something to take lightly.

Pull plugs. crank. Water come out of cylinders? Head gasket. Possible cracked block or head this time, too. I'd be looking at a replacement engine.

2003 ford taurus overheating

ok check these things #1 check for leaks at the radiator #2 water pump for leaks#3 check for freeze plug leak#4 check to see if your cooling fan works#5 check to make sure the water jug is not leaking#6 fill the radiator with water then start your engine and try to see if you can tell if the water flows,if its not flowing check the thermostat, now you can check the thermostat by putting it down in some boiling hot water if while in the hot water it contracts its ok but i would replace it because it is work to go back to do so,check your radiator cap also, now if the fans are the problem then you should change the coolant temp sensor for the fans ,now i hope after making these check you will be able to solve the problem

1996 Ford Taurus is heating up really quick if driven 5 - 10 minutes over 60 mph

If water pump is old, like over 70,000 miles on it,replace it when you do the fan belt and tensioner.
A new thermostat and a radiator flushing might also be in order. don-ohio (:^)

1997 Ford Taurus gets a little hot while driving. Afraid to drive long distances.

try burping the cooling system a few times or could be your thermostat. as far as the belt squeek, you can take a litle bit on silicone grease and put it on the belt in one spot with the car off. let it run for a little bit and the squeek should stop

Changed timing belt water pump and radiator now car starts and seemed to run fine. drove it about 15 mins. then it started to overheat, then the valves started knocking and the car shut off. when i pulled...

it overheated to the point of engine noise, i would do a compression check, it is most likely a head gasket.
when you filled the radiator did you wait for the thermostat to open and fill it again?

2000 ford taurus overheating i believe from expantion tank would it be because of thermostat being cloged

well if you pull the thermostat and it has a guewy residue on it you need to flush the cooland system but most of the time if your engine is overheating its 1 of 2 things... the water pump is shot or the thermostat is sticking closed. that is where i would start though the thermostat is the cheaper of the 2 and easer to get at
good luck

2004 ford taurus. Its not overheating but there

Did you recently have a transmission fixed?
If so it sound like the drive plate bolts were not applied with Loctite.
Maybe a oil viscosity problem if not a transmission job.

Coolant won't stay in reservoir.

a good mechanic would have replaced the thermostat when he did the water pump.
May not even have been the water pump in the first place.
Car may have a vapour lock under the thermostat from leting the coolant out when replacing the water pump , and not filling and bleeding the system correctly.
Thermostat won't open if no hot coolant can get to it.
