Volume Control I recently pickeded up the Onkyo 605. The sound is great, but I am running into volume control problems when I watch a movie, I am constantly having to turn the volume up and down. When a scene is just dialogue, I need to turn up the volume so I can hear it pretty well. Usually I am at around 60. But anytime a big action scene comes up, 60 seems to be too loud, so then I have to turn the volume down again. Gets kind of annoying having to adjust the volume every 5 minutes. Does anyone know what you need to do to compensate for this issue? I have a similar problem with my Audio. Only it seems to be dampening loud sounds as well. I'll be watching an action movie and the gunfire will be like rolling thunder but then when there is an explosion which one would expect to make the walls in the house shake I get something that sounds like it is at half volume. All of my speakers are on and working fine. It just acts as though there is a govenor on my decible level. I have an older model reciever I can't even think what it is right now, but I don't think it has this Audessey thing. I don't have the manuels anymore so I can't look up and trouble shoot it.

I had the same issue, there is a Late night mode on the remote that minimizes the volume of a loud scene so you don't have the constantly adjust the volume. Works great if you are trying to watch a movie while others are trying to sleep.

Connect Sharp LCD tv to Onkyo TX8011 Receiver
The Onkyo TX8011 is a Stereo Receiver. Two ways to connect:
1) The HD Cable box should have an audio out (typically red and white). Connect this to the Obnkyo CD input (red and white). The volume may be controlled with the Cable box remote or Onkyo remote. The TV volume may be muted or ON.

2) Connect LCD TV's audio out to Onkyo TX8011's CD input.
This is not a great way to set up, as the TV volume, when moved high, will attenuate (over load) the amplifier, leading to a jarring sound on the speakers. To avoid this, the TV volume should be ALWAYS FIXED low.. say about 30%. Only the Onkyo's volume should be adjusted while watching.

Some brand name of the DVD player.Some brand name DVD player,u must used it own DVD player remote to turn on the volume higer or lower to get it up or lower on the movie DVD discs or any kind of DVD discs are playing.The tv dosen't control the output volume of the movie,if the function require the DVD player remote to do it.Check ur DVD player remote see if u have a volume control buttons + - used those buttons on the DVD remote control u will control the volume of the movie DVD disc it is playing on the DVD player.

How do I hook up my blue tooth headphones to my onkyo SR 605
You cannot rig up a blue tooth headphones to this receiver with out a blue tooth transmitter ( the Onkyo does not have one built in ). If you have a transmitter it can be plugged into the headphone out socket of the Onkyo ( in front ), just remember that it will cut out the sound from all your speakers when you insert the headphone jack . The advantage though with this connection is you can control the headphone volume using the Onkyo remote.

Yes it is normal, the 608 is a THX certified receiver, so it goes by THX reference levels.

In theory once you have run the Audyssey auto-setup with the included mic the proper reference level for watching movies will be 82 if the volume number scale is set absolute or 0dB of it is set to THX relative. At this setting the volume should be the same as watching that movie at the theater. I have mine set to power-on at a level of -30dB which corresponds to level 52 on the scale you have it set to. This is a comfortable lowish level, but I turn it up to at least -10dB AKA 72 when watching movies.

After a long effort searching on Google, I found a solution. There is a Late night setting on the remote that limits the loud sounds scenes so it is not much loader than the dialog. Works great, I can't believe I never notice the button before.

If you get the above errors then your Sound/Volume control IRQs are frozen by some recent Windows update program while you were on the internet.

Problem connecting Onkyo Amplifier to Bose Accoustimass speaker system
This is probably correct as modern equipment uses electronic volume controls rather than potential dividers the range is normally biased towards the bottom end so there is lots of the range that is quiet and a smaller part that is loud.

Unless you find that at the top of the volume range the system does not seem to be loud then it is probably correct. It is not uncommon for modern equipment to clip at 80 / 90% of the volume range. Where as old style equipment with volume pots used to clip at arround 30% of the volume range as it gave the apperance there was loads of extra volume available. In fact all that happened if you turned it up louder was it clipped more and more.

Volume on my Onkyo Receiver
Yes it is. I have the 705. My room mate has the 605. Both AVR's will not have appreciable volume until 50 on the dial.
The dial in not linear. I don't know of anyone who has plotted the scaling of the volume control yet.
I have found much useful user info on avsforum.com. Owners post Q&A based on experiences.

Volume Control
How do you have it hooked up to speakers (are you using a center channel)? What listening mode are you in (dolby digital, stereo, pro-logic...)? It sounds as though you're not getting center channel info....
