White vertical line going through my IMAC screen

I just noticed a white vertical line running the length of my IMAC screen. it is there even when i went on firefox. it was not there yesterday. it just appeared. this is my only ''working'' computer in my house and I rely on it. is this something that is going to get worse or can it stay localized to the one line and simply be a nuisance? The computer is about 3 years old. i do not know if it is a G4 or G5. my e-mail address is: [email protected]

I just had the same problem. One day all was good, then the next, there is a yellow line going down one row of pixels.

I had an aqua line down my screen for last two weeks - now have a purple one and was so surprised how many people have had this problem. With over 20 years using apple products this is first time I've had a problem with anything mac. Very disappointed to hear of high cost to fix. Apple - do something!

same thing except i have 4 yellow lines and one blue line, its gonna get worse

My boyfriend has an Imac he bought over a year ago. Shortly after the warranty was up the first vertical yellow line appeared and now, about 5 months later another vertical line appeared. He's not happy to hear it only gets worse and apple won't do anything about it.

What happens if person backs up their entire system, and reformats afterwards - in other words, is this a screen problem or a programming problem? Anybody know?

The line is an indication that there is a failure in the display, most times the failure will be limited to the line you see but occasionally the problem will spread, causing more lines. the only way to fix it is to have the display replaced.

I'm having this problem too. About 3 weeks ago one line showed up and about every 5 days a new one shows up. I'm now at 4 lines. The Mac is 3 years old. I was hoping it would last longer than this! I wonder how long until I can't use it at all.

My IBM R52 laptop displays some vertical thin lines (red, green, blue, white, etc). I noticed this problem arises basically IBM R52 and R80 models. Some of my friends too are suffering from this problem and...

This sounds similar to a fault i had with an old dell laptop... very thin vertical lines running the length of the screen. Unfortunately it was an LCD problem, the screen was kaput replacing the screen solved the problem.

To test if it is an LCD fault, simply plug your laptop into an external monitor... if you get no lines on external monitor then its a faulty LCD screen.

Is that solution genuine enough for you?

A fine vertical blue line running through imac screen

How long is a piece of string? is the kind of question you've asked. I've a sneaking suspicion you'll get sick and tired of it before it finally goes.

I HAVE A VERTICAL WHITE LINE (1" WIDE") ON MY DISPLAY

If it runs all the way from top to bottom, will not go away, and perhaps flickers or vibrates, it is quite possibly a symptom of a faulty LCD panel. Attach a second display using the auxiliary display port on the rear. If the white line does not show up on this display, your main LCD panel is faulty.
Main LCD panel replacement on this model is not a difficult job for a certified tech. The panel can be had for $80 used (17" screen; other sizes may vary).

Vertical white line down centre of Soniq PT42SH plasma TV.

One of your "X" buffer boards is defective. In Panasonic plasma tv's they are located at the bootom of the set and connect directly to the plasma diplay panel via a thin ribbon cable. The board you want to replace will be directly in line with the discolored vertival line in the picture. The part number is on the circuit board and usualy starts with "tnp..." or "txp..."

I just noticed a white vertical line running through my MAC screen on my desktop..this is an IMAC so it is more than than just a monitor it is the whole computer..is this a probelm that can stay localized...

its not uncommon for that to happen after a long time of use due to heat, it may last another 5 years like that then again you never know, if its worth it you can get a replacement screen off ebay fairly cheap it wont affect the performance of your system but im sure it can be quite annoying

Sony 40 inch lcd television

Call Sony!! It Will get worse!!! The panel has ribbons that have fine wires that are used to show each line of information on the screen. Either the panel is going or the wires are loose. Either way, the panel needs replacing. Just hope to God it's under warranty or if not, sony will help you out with a buy-out.

White lines equally spaced 1" apart.

This is probably caused by the small signal board. It controls and decodes the picture information before it is sent to the display panel. It can be fixed by a quailified technician and if you contact philips (this is who makes magnavox) they will tell you the closest certified technician. Hope this helps.

Vertical line on screen

It sounds like you have a bad cable coming off of your Plasma Screen that goes into one of the buffer boards or a bad buffer board (Hopefully the latter which is easily replaced but most likely not!) I have run into the same problem and there is an IC made into the cable that goes out and would be very difficult to repair if it is even possible.
