My canon sd630 can view pictures when you set it to

I can't seem to get my camera to work. I dropped it a long time ago and I just ended up buying a new one, but I want to try and fix my old one. the old camera is a canon sd630--I can turn it on if I set it to the "display" and just view my pictures but when I try to switch it to "camera" or "video" it won't take any photos? It turns on, there's this little noise like it wants to come out and the light turns green, but I can't view anything or take photos? Please please help.

The technical term for this is 'broken'. Repair will cost more than replacement.

SOURCE: Not reading my memory card

You may have bent or broken contacts inside the card slot. It's tough to see, but if you look deep inside the slot, you may notice a contact bent or broken. If you're not able to see any damage inside, try taking a cotton swab with some alcohol (isopropyl, not rubbing or drinking type), and cleaning the contacts.

SOURCE: CANON POWER SHOT SD750 DOESNT TAKE PICTURES BLACK SCREEN

DON'T DUMP YOUR CAMERA JUST YET! I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE SOME INFORMATION ON YOUR CAMERA AND SOME THINGS FOR YOU TO TRY. FIRST YOUR CAMERA SITE SAYS THERE IS A SWITCH ON THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR CAMERA THAT SAYS " DISP " WHICH I ASSUME MEANS DISPLAY. PLEASE TRY PUSHING THIS BUTTON AND SEEING IF THIS WORKS? NEXT YOU NEED TO TRY TO REST YOUR CAMERA. THAT IS DONE BY GOING TO SETUP>CHOOSE RESET> HOLD DOWN MENU KEY FOR 5 SECONDS AND SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT SOLUTION MIGHT BE THAT THE CAMERA FIRMWARE MAY NEED TO BE RELOADED TO RESET THE CAMERA TO FACTORY DEFAULTS. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF THINGS, BUT THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE A SIMPLE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217. GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: Canon Rebel XS says it's busy

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS.

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:

  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  3. Follow this link to download the MAC version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  4. Follow this link to download the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D Instruction Manual.

I hope that helps.

How to set date stamp on Canon Powershot SD630?

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

Canon PowerShot SD630 turn off itself AND could not turn on again

since its been two years you have bought the cam either your battery is down or you might have dropped your cam down which had damaged the lens array!!!
try replacing the battery and if it works its an happy ending of the problem.but if it still doesn't work then you have to replace the lens array!
any way i suggest you to take your cam to a "pro" since only physical examination has the best analysis of the problem

PowerShot SD630 lens stuck out, says lens error, restart camera

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

CANON POWER SHOT SD750 DOESNT TAKE PICTURES BLACK SCREEN

Mine started working again. The only thing I can attribute to it is that I zoomed the lens in and out several times. The next time I turned it on, it worked. Go figure. I'll update if things change.

My Canon Powershot SD630

Dear Peter,

It sounds to me as though your camera is experiencing the early stages of a CCD sensor problem. Users will often experience color changes and/or lines in their LCD screens when viewed in picture taking modes at this stage of the problem. Later on their sensors will ultimately fail completely and they will typicallt get nothing but a black screen.

To differentiate between a sensor problem and a LCD screen problem, try viewing your LCD screen in several different shooting modes (e.g. automatic, manual, program AE, etc) and then view your screen while in your menu (by depressing the menu button in any shooting mode). If you can clearly see your menu (OR, while in playback, pictures that were taken before the issue began) then it is your CCD image sensor and not your LCD screen.

If, however, all of these modes gives you the same distortion, it is your LCD screen itself that has experienced a problem. In either case, however, the primary solution is to send the camera in for service.

If you are under your 1 Year warranty this is usually no problem. If you are out of your warranty period and (and this is a BIG and) are capable of repairing your digital camera yourself, you have the alternate option of ordering just the defective part and installing it yourself. Replacment parts, however, come with no technical support and no instructions so make absolutely sure you are capable of repairing the camera should you choose this lower cost repair option. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

What do pictures taken at night/poor light look like ?? if they are an improvment ,
your Exposure/Auto-Light/White Balance settings may be horribly configured.

Firstly I'd try Resetting the camera to default settings by using the settings menu .
>Menu >Settings >Reset default settings

This should eliminate poor settings as a suspect for the problem.
