How much RAM (physical) do you have installed. If you are running Vista and are not clearing your caches and temp. internet files you are going to run into problems. Microsoft recommends Vista requires 512 MB of memory. With other programs reunning you are probably using more virtual memory which will tax your system. I know alot of e-machines only come with 256 MB installed. (Doesn't make sense to me other than cost reduction) e-machines are not the most stable cpu's out there either. You probably will need at least 1 GB of memory or more if allowed.

Nine times out off ten this message is caused by defective memory. If you have more than one stick in the computer, pull them and test them one at a time until the problem triggers again.
Try taking the computer into Safe Mode and see if you still get the message. If you do, then its DEFINITELY the memory.
SOURCE: Unmountable boot volume or do I need another hard drive ?
Start machine press F8 repeatedly
If it lets you into Safe Mode then go to Programs, Accesories, System Tools, System Restore and try to roll the machine back a week or so
If that does not work you need to find a buddy with a copy of the software and reinstall providing your machine has the Windows sticker on the back or sides giving you the key code

Press and hold both "delete and F8" rapidly while you PC boots this will then take you to the bios screen. Save changes then exit.
