I connected from my PC's tv-out (rca) to my the back of my small TV (rca - video-in). I only get black and white pictures. I changed to a new cable..no luck. Tried adjusting the TV setting to PAL, NTSC, AUTO... no luck. I even tried the TV's front sockets.. no luck. I then tried on a different TV, no luck. Later tried on the second set of video-in on this TV. It works! But the thing is I need to get the first small TV to work with color. Could someone please help?

The computer monitor is plugged in near the mouse/keyboard sockets using normal VGA plug. The works fine. A separate TV card has three RCA outputs (red, white, yellow) and an S-Video out. It's the yllow RCA output which is giving me a headache. It works (with colour pictures) on the second video-in on the large TV only. Thanks all for the advises. Tried but still no luck. I have now worked out the problem, out of my expectation. I was trying to buy an NTSC-to-PAL converter from ebay. I came across this cheap one but it says it only works on 60Hz PAL TV. Mine runs on 50 Hz only. Hmm...maybe the computer is outputting 60Hz signal. Without buying the converter, I went and bought a little cheap TV from ebay which runs on both 50 and 60Hz, and supports NTSC and PAL. Hooked them up... BINGO !!!Thanks all for the advises. I had the same problem and nothing worked for me until I changed laptop settings to NTSC_M
So, briefly what I have: S-Video to S-Video cable, laptop (Thinkpad R51, Windows XP, with Intel(R) extreme graphics controler ) and TV set (Samsung, quite old one). The problem was that after connecting my laptop S-Video (4 pin) with S-Video (4 pin) of my TV, I had black and white (no colour) picture.
Solution is the folowing:
- connect your laptop and TV (both S-video 4 pins)
- mouse right click on your laptop desktop screen
- in the popup menu select: 'Graphics Properties'
- "Output to"
- select "TV"
- properties "NTSC_M"
keep in mind that if your are not connected to TV, Graphics Properties don't show TV as an option. So, that was very confusing for me, as I saw similar solution somewhere but was not able to find NTSC_M settings on my laptop

firstly check that the 3.5mm plug has the same number of contacts as the original there should be 4 segments
The three rca plugs are coloured red white and yellow
white is left audio,red is right audio and yellow is video
usually composite video.
some tv,s have an rca input some have two
and some have rca outputs
the sockets on the tv are also coloured to match the plugs
please check that the plugs are inserted into the correct
coloured input sockets

Hi Debbi, Please check whether you have connected your tv video cable (normally Yelllow colour RCA Pin) to component "Y " in the dvd box.. If yes, remove it and connect it to Composite out Yellow RCA female connector for Coloured output. If you connect to "Y" it wl give only Black and White in component ( Y Pr Pb )
To add an exterior speaker to Sony KV-13M10, you have to have an AMPLIFIER.
At the back of your TV you will be able to see 3 RCA output namely = VHF/UHF, Audio and Video.
Use an RCA cable and connect to the Audio output.
At the back of your amplifier, connect the other end of the RCA cable to an RCA input labeled Audio - L (left, usually in white color).
Your speaker should be connected to your amplifier labeled output or audio out. The connection type depends on the make and model of your amplifier. The speaker wires usually come in red and black color. red goes to red, black goes to white.
A simple diagram will look like this:
TV audio out -------------> amplifier audio in (left, white color)
amplifier audio out (left, white color) -----------> speaker (black wire)
amplifier audio out (right, red color) ------------> speaker (red wire)
I suspect you may have connected a COMPOSITE cable (red/white/yellow RCA type) to the COMPONENT video input sockets on the back of the TV.
COMPONENT requires 3 RCA type video cables - the plugs and sockets are usually colour-coded red, green, and blue. COMPOSITE only uses one RCA type video cable - the plugs and sockets are usually colour-coded yellow. If you connect the yellow video cable to one of the three component inputs you will get a black and white picture although you will still have audio if the red and white cables are correctly connected.
If you are using a COMPOSITE cable (red/white/yellow RCA type), please check your connections. Make sure you have not connected to any sockets - either on the TV or the back of the DVD player - under the heading of "COMPONENT" - or individually marked "Pr", "Cr", "Pb", "Cb" or "Y".
If you have verified that you are using the correct sockets on the TV and it still doesn't work or if you are using any other type of cable, please let me know which cable you are using and the model number of the TV and the DVD player. I will then be able to assist you further.

had to use the (RCA) video inputs and not the component inputs. These
are the ones made for video games. If you want to use the component
input (Component cables are Red,White Red, Green, Blue). If you don't

First of all you will need to identify the available input ports on your TV. An RCA port is generally standard nowadays and it consists of a red, a white and yellow coloured reception ports (the colours may differ between tvs, i.e black instead of red). The red and white are for stero sound and the yellow is for video.
Modern TV systems also have a VGA adapter which is small flat port like the ones on a computer screen. This is usually blue.
A third option is an S-Video port, which is round in shape.
To connect your laptop using the RCA port, you will need an S-Video to RCA converter. You connect the S-Video to the port on your latptop, and through the converter to the RCA yellow port on your TV. For sound you will use another cable that connects to the headphone jack on your laptop and then splits to a white and a red cable to connect to your TV.
If you have VGA port on your TV, then connect the VGA port on your laptop to the VGA port on your TV. No converters needed. For sound you will use the same approach as above.
To use the third option you will need to have an s-video out port on your laptop and you will connect it directly to your TV s-video port. For sound, again you will use the approach as the rca solution.
Then, using your remote control, select the AV mode or depending on your TV select the PC or VGA mode.
Finally, to transfer the video from your laptop to your TV press and hold the Fn key on your laptop's keyboard and then the F7 or F9 key. (It has s small TV icon on it).

Locate where A/V INPUTS (audio/video socket) from your TV screen, you can see it either at the BACK/SIDE or somtimes in FRONT of TV screen , having marked as "AV1"AV2"AV3' .
Once you found TV input, you must first have RCA cable (color code cable to connect player to screen) then connect the RCA cable at the back of your DVD player, simply follow color code
RCA yellow marked cable = DVD yellow socket RCA RED and WHITE marked cable = DVD RED and white socket (second row for your player)
then connect the other end of the RCA cable to TV screen, first select which input where you gonna place the DVD player ( either AV1, Av2 or Av3 if do have multiple inputs)
once decided which INPUT to connect the player. ex. if you select AV1 as input there would be 3socket on its row (yellow/red/white)
now connect the other end of RCA cable to the screen by following the same color code:
RCA yellow cable = TV screen A/V1 input yellow socket RCA RED and White = TV screen A/V1 input red and white socket.
If it has an "AUX" input or any other type of RCA jacks for an input, you can connect the TV RCA audio jacks output to the input RCA jacks of the Aiwa.

Just look at the back of each unit and see if it has them. RCA audio jacks are the small circular red and white jacks. They will be labed on each unit what they are for. You need output jacks on the TV and input jacks (but not for phono) on the Aiwa.
Possibly you have a 2 channel av card built on your tv have you checked all channels if so Maplins do a s-video to phono adapter that converts to colour
I bought a wii a few days ago and like everybody else mine too was in black and white with a grainy picture. I have a Panasonic lcd flat screen and thought I had connected it corrected, I got somebody out to have a look at it and found out there are some connections on the side of the TV which I hadn't even noticed before, once I put the red white and yellow leads in these and set the TV to AV3 everything is in perfect colour. Hope this works for some of you.
