The needle on my model 1315 Kenmore sewing machine wont go up and down.

Model 1315- I just recieve this and while I was stiching the needle was moving up and down, then it stopped after I switched the bobbin. how do I get it to move again? the motor runs and the hand wheel is spinning, but nothing is happening to the needle other than a few tiny movements up and down. Nothing that puts it through the fabric though.

Untangle any mess under and around the needleplate very gingerly trimming threads as you go if necessary....remove and clear.

Undo the needle clamp and remove the remains of the needle.

Open the door for the bobbin and bobbin case and undo the clips holding the hook in place......don't force anything, just ease any tangle loose slowly.

You may want to take a photo of how it goes back together if unfamiliar, or lay the bits out sensibly, so you can replace easily later.

Inside the bobbin/hook area is the most likely region for thread jamming the motion of everything, so make sure all is clear and clean, then.......

Without replacing the bobbin or hook, test the handwheel after cleaning before re-assembly.

You may also want to check the take-up crank for thread jams........the small arm in the top cover that moves up/down to "take-up" the top thread has a cam attached to the top shaft and often tangles thread around the shaft, open the L side cover to access.......remove thread by unwinding handwheel manually ....again be patient and careful not to break threads.

Best Wishes

SOURCE: Hand wheel spins without moving the needle

I used to have an old Bernina that had an inner and outer hand wheel. Loosening the inner wheel disconnected the needle bar from the motor so you could wind the bobbin without running the needle up and down. It sounds to me like your machine has the same feature, but resistance on the needle makes the inner wheel loosen up. I don't know whether wrenching on it as tight as you can would be enough, or whether this is a symptom indicating that there is something loose internally in the connection between the inner and outer wheels. Good luck!

SOURCE: can't tighten clutch on Kenmore zig zag sewing machine.

The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

SOURCE: Kenmore 158.1703 sewing machine - needle not going up and down

The machine sounds like it has threads caught in the bobbin area thus locking the machine up. Check in there and maybe you can pick them out with tweezers. They may need to be 'softened up' with a little oil before you can get them out!. also Please push the bobbin winder back to the left position and it will release the bobbin winder. Then you should be able to sew. If the needle won't move, you will need to tighten the turning wheel on the right side end of the machine. This should move your needle. Then you should be set to sew.
------This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore Sewing Machine Model 385. 1254180 Bobbin Won't Wind

The winding sound is the rubber O-ring against the spinning pulley (back of hand wheel) - do not let this continue, it will wear out the O-ring.

I had the same problem and I found the shaft bushing of the winder dry and needed lubed. Use oil or spray lithium grease and it should work fine. Spin the bobbin shaft by hand (not the hand wheel) to get it freed up after oiling.

You can oil from the top and should take off the side case to clean the excess oil from the O-ring. The shaft bushing is a tight fit and any dry oil will get sticky and prevent winding.

Install a brand new needle. If it still won't pick up the bobbin thread, the machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Cloth does not move . It sews when I pull the cloth myself, but it does not automatically moves the cloth by itself

Make sure your feed dogs are up. Feed dogs are moving metal parts in the needle plate that make the fabric move forward under the presser foot. Open up the shuttle box underneath the needle plate. There is a lever to the right of the the shuttle. Press the lever down and to the left to raise the feed dogs.

Won't sew when foot pedal is pressed

Since it was your grandmother's machine, it is very likely the machine has not been used in many years nor has it had any TLC. Most often, the machine will seize due to old oil that has dried out. Resist the temptation to try running the machine until the issue is addressed because the motor can be damaged. If this is the cause of the problem, you will need plenty of patience, good quality oil, possibly a handheld hairdryer, and good ol' elbow grease. But, at the end, you will have a well-functioning sewing machine.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

I have a 12 sticher Kenmore maching that won't lay down the stiches? Everything is threaded but the thread won't go into the fabric

Check the needle, make sure it is not in backwards. Groove in the needle to the front. If you are sewing on a knit you may need a ball point needle/needle for knits.
