New raido wanting the best noise canceling micaphone
The astatic 636l or a astatic road devil. I think they mach the 148 well. If your 148 is stock out of the box, no peek & tune the mic will help but, if you get a basic alignment,peek & tune it will make a big change in performance,output and audio. Hi,
For most CB radios, some common components that fail and would cause a fuse to blow would be:
1. reverse protection diode located right after the power connector at the very rear of the board;
2. finals (2SC1306/7 or 2SC1969);
3. filter capacitor, 2200uF/16V;
4. audio amp IC located on the side of the chassis; and/or
5. 3 terminal voltage regulator (780X) or a zener diode.
Alternately, a wire (after the switch) might have been grounded.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information.
Good luck and kind regards.

Hello k007,
It sounds like you may have damaged the RF power amplifier stage of the CB. Since you were adjusting the antenna characteristics. Did you have a SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter connected while you were tuning the unit? If you did you might have noticed the needle go past the 1.2 mark when you were adjusting the antenna or the unit itself. In any event I think that the RF power Amp is shot.
Thank you,
