I am attempting to connect my external hard drive ( model: Philips SPE3091CC 1TB 3.5" External Hard Disk Drive USB2.0) to my dvd player through a USB cable. the dvd player or any others i have tried are not reading the HDD. i believe it is because the HDD has the format of NTFS where other HDDs that work are FAT32. there is no way to change the philips 1TB HDD to FAT32.how can i solve this problem?Thanks
My question would be are the movies in the right format. Just because they play on your computer does not mean they will play on you DVD.NTFS or FAT 32 would have no bearing on this. They are simply data per sector protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices.You may need the proper codec for you computer so it can make a DVD you player can play.
This is more a note than a solution:
A drive in NTFS format cannot be converted back to FAT or to
FAT32. In order to restore the drive to the previous file system, you must reformat it
as FAT or as FAT32.

The movies work fine when transfered to a usb pen drive (which uses the
file system FAT32) i understand that they are "simply data per sector
protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices" but if the DVD
players i am trying to use only support FAT32 then it would make sense
that a HDD using NTFS would not work because FAT32 does not understand
NTFS unlike the otherway around.
I
explained how other HDDs have worked, meaning i have simply transfered
the movie from the 1TB external HDD to another external HDD (in this
case a 500GB HDD that uses FAT32) everything works fine.
I am
thinking either some kind of drivers need to be installed on the DVD
player, or the file system needs to be changed to one that the DVD
player can read, in this case FAT32.
i believe i need to
delete the partition on the HDD using disk manager (by going to run
from the start menu, then running "diskmgmt.msc"). then create a new
one using the file system FAT32. I have not attempted this yet, but
thought it might be useful to people having the same problem.
the make of the dvds player is philips, same as the HDD, tried it on my xbox to and got no result. it just doesnt show up or on a philips portable dvd player i tried it says its not supported....im pretty confident its to do with the file system. ill postif i get any success.
