In camcorder mode the prompt "LENS CAP" is displayed, no picture

This is a gz-mg30u camcorder. unit worked fine until about week ago.

The lens cap is removed. when in camcorder mode the prompt "lens cap" displays, of course nothing on the screen.

Is it broken, or did an unknown button get pushed?

JVC GZ-MG20U

It's definitely an internal problem in your camera and it sounds like you don't have any warranty after 5 years. I don't have a step-by-step help guide for you since I don't know about this camcorder but in my opinion, if the camcorder is really that good, it's worth the repairs. Though HD camcorders are getting cheaper these days...

I hv jvc gZ mg57u Camcorder. it is showing lens cap on even when it is removed. in both still and video mode i cant see the picture which i want to take. what could be the problem.

This normally happens when the light sensor inside the lens has burned out. Most often this occurs when the unit was left on and running with the lens cap on and the light sensor works itself to death.

It is not a user-replaceable part. Both myself and a friend had to return the unit for warranty service. His was in warranty, I had to pay to purchase an extended warranty (About $115 for 1 year) and we shipped in to them and received it back within a few weeks each. No problems since (but I make sure the unit is off every time so it doesn't happen again!)

LENS CAP WARNING

JVC camcorder no picture on screen remove lens cap and unable to record problem is down to a faulty batch of ccd image sensors (thousands that Sony supplied) and if you phone the JVC servce centre (0845 3108000) and explain the problems you are experiencing its a good chance they will repair it free depending on model (I know because I have done just that and JVC are paying for it to be collected, repaired and returned totally free of charge, and mine was purchased in 2004. What have you got to lose the price of a phone call or about £70 to £90 to have it repaired yourself
Good luck syrups6

JVC GZ-MC500AH

The problem I am facing is,

it says the lens cap is there & remove it, though there is no lens cap.

This seems to me that something is wrong with shutter or there are some mechanical problem.

Both for VDO & Still - the problem is same.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem.

Thanks & Regards.

No image through view finder or lcd monitor

JVC has acknowledged a fault on their side that will cause certain models to display the "lens cap" error, and they offer free repairs, unfortunately your model isn't on the list. You still might get some consideration, since there are plenty of models from the GR-D series listed. Here's a link to the JVC site : http://www.jvc.com/support/notification/index.jsp?pageID=2 You're not alone though, it's a very common problem also with models that are not listed by JVC. I only heard of complaints by people that JVC refused to help, but it won't hurt trying, maybe they'll give in to public pressure eventually. Good luck
