How do I get rid of the echo sound effect on my computer. I feel like I'm living in a horror movie.
I had this problem. I right clicked on the speaker icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, selected playback devices, left clicked to highlight the 'speakers' (realtek in my case) then clicked properties in the lower right of the open window, clicked on the enhancements tab, and found that my sound effect properties had been changed to auditorium. I clicked the selection arrow and changed the enhancements to 'none'. Oh happy day! No more echo.

this happened over a year ago and i forgot what fixed it.i may have used go back and
brought it back before the problem.now i dont have go-back and i needed to know how to fix this!

Thank you so much, this was driving me nuts. The music wasn't too bad but when the radio announcer came on it sounded really odd. I went to my settings and somehow they had changed to bathroom. Why would anyone want to have their speakers sound like they're playing in a bathroom??? Weird LOL... Thanks again, thrilled to have "normal" sound again :)

I have windowsxp in my computer, how can I get rid of the echo in my sound systems, it sounds like they're in an echo chamber
I clicked on the Realteck HD Audio Manager in the tool bar (don't know how it got there) and found I was in "stone corridor" in the "environment" settings. I reset to "none" and the echo left.
I dont have the enhancements tab to get rid of echo sounds. What can I do
Ok the volume control and check the speaker settin it might be in echo or see if you and other audio software and delleted it
Thank you infopink! I did resolve the 'echo' in my speakers. I changed environment to none.
Steps (for XP)
1. Control Panel
2. Make sure it's on Classic View; check upper left corner
3. Double click 'Sound Effect Manager'
4. Option from the drop-down arrow below Environment must be changed to 'None'

I found that when my Windows speaker was higher than about 60% I got an echo efffect. I turned up the application (web site) speaker to max and turned down the Windows speaker.

Yes, this worked, in Control Panel (for me) look for Reltek HD Sound Effect Manager. I now recall playing with this many months back and must have left it set to Auditorium but now today I couldn't recall how to get here to correct it. I'm getting old, I forget things.
