I have a Panasonic Plasma HDTV Model: TH-42PZ80U. Lightning hit pretty close to the house and I think jumped to the coax coming into the TV and to my cable modem. The cable modem is fried, and the HDMI ports on the TV will not work anymore. The component and every other port I have tried so far is working along with coax. When connecting an HDMI cord from my computer to the TV's HDMI port the computer recgonizes that it is a Pansonic TV, but will not show on screen with the correct resolutions set to send to the TV. I use my computer all the time on the TV because it has a blu-ray burner on it. I have tried the reset within menus. I have not tried the Volume(-) and menu on remote reset yet because I am not home to try it right now. Some people are telling me it is the A-Board and it will be $300-400 to fix. Another place told me it was likely the signal board and it would be $200-250. The power button does not give me any error blinks at all. Any thoughts on getting this working for $200-250? If it is going to be more like $400+ I am just going to give it my son let him use it by component connection and buy a new TV.

I don't have a solution, unfortunately, but your problem is nearly identical to mine. It even seems to have happened on the same date (7/27/12)! Do you live near Dener by chance? Anyway, we have Direct Tv, and ended up with 2 fried HD DVR boxes and 2 TVs on which the HDMI connections don't work after lightning hit close to our house on 7/27. Those boxes were replaced, as was part of the Direct TV dish. The only difference is, whereas on one TV component connections (red/white/yellow cables) allowed the TV to work normally, on the other (my 50 inch Panasonic Plasma TCP50S30) even the red/white/yellow cables did not work. Now I'm scouting the net for tips on what else to try before I possibly have the Panasonic looked at, which I am hedging on doing since I got it for only $600 new in the first place. Have you found out anything else since you posted this? Good luck to you...

Problem is with your ISP/Cable Company accepting the installation as one with HD clients, which while
not necessarily costing you more, must be specified to the cable box by your installer.
Make the call.

Probably not, but your insurance should pay if you have a renter or homeowner policy.

The Panasonic doesn't detect the presence of the signal on the antenna input so it just skips it. shut down the player and turn the cable box on before attempting to switch sources.
But why aren't you using the Composite RCA connection on the cable box ? Not only you would get a much better image but the tv would detect that change in the AV source and should switch by itself. If it doesn't then the control processor is faulty and the entire mainboard will will have to be replaced

You are better off replacing the power supply board. Usually the mother board will output a power ok signal to turn on the TV only when the power supply is working correctly (all voltages are within specs), similar to a computer, having said so, if you have the schematics you can verify those voltages being output from the power supply upon depressing the power button. The +5v stand by voltage is most likely ok, since the mother board is at least providing you with the blinking light. It is the +12V and +24V which are not being output, along with any other auxiliary voltages. I would suggest either having a replacement board (power PCB) installed or otherwise feeding the needed voltages by substituting those missing ones with a variable DC power supply, just to verify it. Follow above only if familiar with electronics and electricity. safety first!.

Hello
If cable box converter has damaged, there is no question about the main board of your TV. It has been damaged. Before replacing it, you have to check the power supply board also. If the TV has been pluged to power supply, surely there will be fault to it also. We can't predict the exact fault occurs during a lightning, because Trillions of volts are passes nearby. You have connected the TV with cable connection and to the home power supply too.
Just replace the main board first. If it does not hel you, replace the power board too. I hereby send picture of both boards.
The first one is main board and the other is power supply regulator board.
