Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-24FS100 24" TV On/Off problems

Several people seem to have this problem. Mine is the same: "standby light" blinking when tv is off and it takes several tries to get tv to power on. Today it took about 20 tries to turn tv on. Help!! I'm no techie so please keep in mind us simple folks. Standby light blinks 7 times in a row. Attempts to power up fail each time. Unplugged TV after first hitting the power button but before TV turned itself off again without success (this was suggested by people at Sony). Still can't get TV to power up. Standy button fashhes 6 times when off. Takes several tries to get T.V. turned on. Usually about 3 tries, but yesterday it took about 20 times. What do the flashes mean and how can the problem be fixed?

I have spent about 4 hours tonight researching several tech sites and the Sony service manual for the same problem with my Sony KV-32HS510 unit. I was able to download the manual from a website http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/31649/Sony_KV-32HS510.html and a TV Repair training lecture paper at http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvhvp .

These TV sets have a safety feature where it will shut back down if a high voltage is indicated. Unfortunately, the electronics for these safety features are not very reliable and give false indication. Letting the unit sit off lets the capacitors leak voltage as well as cool off. These two factor help with the unit not falsely indicating a high voltage condition.

The D Board seems to be the most common failure component, but a 6 times flash could be an overcurrent/voltage failure from the A, B, or M boards. A 7 times flash is a Horizontal Deflection Stopped error with no additional information given in the manual for a fix. Again, in most blogs, the D Board seemed to the source of the failures.

A refurbished D Board part no. A1300319A can be bought for around $200 with a new board at $550 per the www.partstore.com site. Then add $100-$200 for an actual TV service technician and you have a repair bill approaching the costs for a new flatscreen TV.

Some tech types posted that they have actually repaired their boards by replacing individual components for around $40. You may find a service shop that can do the same component level repair at the $100-$150 level cost. It turns out that the closest authorized Sony repair shop is 2-1/2 hours away from us. Good luck finding someone close by.

We were able to get our TV to come back on after dozens of attempts and plan to leave it on until it dies all together. I may attempt my own D Board replacement when the time comes.

Good luck!

I think I have the solution for you. I have the same tv and it does the same thing when you turn on the power button on the remote when the tv turns on you hear a click then the red light flashes about 5 to 6 times then the tv comes on. on the remote there should be two buttons on top of the remote one says power and the other one says system hit the power button to turn on the tv when you hear the click and see the red light flashing then hit the system button which will turn off the tv then hit the power button again and it will turn the tv on without the red light flashing it should work

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with
troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one
circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Blinks

The blinking standby light should be in a repeating pattern of a fixed count of blinks. Please post that count here as that will indicate the circuit in which a problem was detected. Armed with that info, we can then tell you the problem and probable solution.

Thanks,
