Hi, sorry you can not undo a reformat, you can only contiue and reinstall operating system.

Try doing a system restore on it.

when you put in the windows installation disc and restart your computer you will get a screen where you have the option to delete and reformat any existing disc partitions, choose delete current partition and reformat in NTFS and then you can install windows on newly formatted drive

Usually it's a problem with the motherboard with majority of the HP DV series laptops. They just released an extended warranty that covers many of their models. You can check your warranty here:

If you'd like to try something yourself, I would recommend reseating the memory and booting your laptop without the main battery installed.

Do you have a usb to SATA connector? If so you can plug the old drive into the USB slot and it will act as a slave so you can pull the contents from the old drive to the new. The adapter is about 25.00 or If it was me I would invest into a pocket USB hard drive case that you can put your old drive into perminatly so you can always have a external hard drive for back up later after yo uhave moved the data over and reformatted it. The case is $25-$40.00.
