The pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

How do i light a old magic chef stove

Hi,
If the stove is the one that I think that it is... you will have to lift the cover and then between the burners there will be a small orifice that you light... the pilot light will then light the burners when the gas is turned on to them...

I cant find the stove top pilot

Electric Ignition (sparking clicking noise when control knob is turned to "light" setting) do not have pilots. The spark ignites the gas.

Magic chef oven pilot light out

Hi, If the oven has a standing pilot too, Open the bottom door and locate the main burner. Follow the burner toward the rear of the oven and there will be a flame switch attatched to the burner. Hold the flame near the flame switch and the gas should ignite.
Some model do not have a standing pilot in the oven. Please get me your model number off the label located around the opening of the lower door so I can look this up and instruct you better.

Propane not getting to oven... stove top works fine..

The pilot light must be lit and stay lit before you will have any propane coming into the oven. This is a safety feature.

Old Magic Chef Gas Oven won't light

sounding like thermostat isn't working. If you could ohm out the t-stat should be closed when you call for heat. If that passes the test then only thing it could be is the gas valve.

Pilot lights

you need to plug the oven in; pull it out and you should locate the pwr cord or you may already have it plugged in and have a breaker turned off or a gfi tripped
