The bulb on the tv blew after 3 years of use which isn't bad. I bought the Phillips replacement bulb based off the product code ux21517. I took the housing apart and went to put in the other bulb, but the new bulb has a lip over each corner and now won't fit flush with the bulb housing. The bulb seems to be the right size except for the lip. I tried looking for other posts as I don't think I am the only person who would have this problem.
I also went on the internet and checked other sights to see if the website I bought the bulb from wasn't advertising the correct bulb, but they all look the same as my new bulb.
Did Hitachi just up and decide to change the bulb and housing for its tvs? If so, do I need to buy the bulb and housing to make it work? I don't want to keep ordering parts only to have the hassle of returning them. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Spencer
Go to this web address: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/hitachi/UX21517.php and read step 9.
It clearly says that with the new bulb you don't need 2 pieces. Check step 9 to which piece I am talking about. Once you remove that piece, your new bulb will fit.
I believe the lamp you need is the UX21516. not the 21517
I have a 50VF820 and this is the lamp for it.
By the way my unit just hit the 3 years and the lamp just blew as well.

Just had the same exact problem...trying to find the recessed bulb at this time. Not looking forward to buying bulb /compartment and all. Really tired of the tv not working at this point. $2,000 and 3yrs worth of a tv and soooo many issues...ugggg frustrating!
