My hitachi 50v720 bulb blew and the replacement doesn't fit

The bulb on the tv blew after 3 years of use which isn't bad.   I bought the Phillips replacement bulb based off the product code ux21517.  I took the housing apart and went to put in the other bulb, but the new bulb has a lip over each corner and now won't fit flush with the bulb housing.   The bulb seems to be the right size except for the lip.   I tried looking for other posts as I don't think I am the only person who would have this problem.  I also went on the internet and checked other sights to see if the website I bought the bulb from wasn't advertising the correct bulb, but they all look the same as my new bulb.    Did Hitachi just up and decide to change the bulb and housing for its tvs?  If so, do I need to buy the bulb and housing to make it work?  I don't want to keep ordering parts only to have the hassle of returning them.   Any help would be great.
Thanks, Spencer

Go to this web address: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/hitachi/UX21517.php and read step 9.
It clearly says that with the new bulb you don't need 2 pieces. Check step 9 to which piece I am talking about. Once you remove that piece, your new bulb will fit.

I believe the lamp you need is the UX21516. not the 21517
I have a 50VF820 and this is the lamp for it.
By the way my unit just hit the 3 years and the lamp just blew as well.

Hi I have a Hitachi 50v720 and I just replaced the bulb with the Phillips UX21517 bulb. When I turned the tv back on the picture worked fine except everything has a yellow tint.

I don't know if this set is a DLP or not, if it is, it could be your light engine. Not good, mine had a yellow halo about 2in thick in the middle of the screen. Light engine had to be replaced. Hope this is helpful. GOOD LUCK!

Blue Haze in middle of screen progressively getting larger

This one is easy. WHen this happened to me, I simply called GE extended warranty service up and bought an extended warranty. I waited 30 days and called them up with my problem. A repair man showed up a few days later with the 1200 dollar light engine and installed it and left. Then I called GE up and cancelled the warranty. Total cost?: 48 bucks

My hitachi 50v720 bulb blew and the replacement doesn't fit

I have a 50V525E and I have the same problem....My bulb is suppose to be a LM500 and I received a P22 Phillips (And I did check their web site and that is the bulb they recommend), and like you said...The 4 little glass tabs will not allow the bulb to sit flat in the housing.....

I am waiting for the vendor to answer my inquiry...But I recommend to anyone ordering a bulb...Ask if it is Phillips, and if it is...stay away.

Hitachi 50v720

You need to remove the front panel of the TV. If you look at the picture above, this panel is the light gray piece on the bottom of the tv. It is attached with plactic connectors. Just poo it off and then you will see a metal panel with some screws. remove the panel and then you will see the light buld casing. Pull it out and replace it with the new light bulb casing. If you did not purchase a new light bulb casing and bought just the bulb, you will need to take the casing apart and replace the bulb. Make sure to mark the wires so you will know where they should be connect to the new bulb.

Hitacha 50V720's Lamp Bulb

Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.

Hitachi model # 50V720

I have the same model and had the same problem after replacing the lamp. Turns out if the cover plate is not put back on properly, tv will not power on and lamp ligth comes on. To solve the problem all I had to do is tighten the cover plate screw. Hope this helps.
