DLP TV keeps flickering

Samsung dlp is connected to directtv hd dvr receiver via component input and the picture keeps flickering. When I switch the connetion to S-Video, the picture is fine. I think its something to do with the TV and not Directtv. Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. After reading other posts and having the Direct TV technican check it out, we think its due to the digital board. However, replacing the digital board will cost more than the TV is worth. My TV is 43 nch and it costs around $800 new. To replace the digital board plus labot costs around $800. I was able to narrow the problem down to 480 resolutin - it only occurs during this resolution. As a work around, I forced all chennal to 1080 resolution. It doesn't flicker any more.

Please recheck component connections in both units and make sure to hook up them according to corresponding colors like blue to blue, red to red and orange to orange.

You may be able the settings of your directTV box to stop frustrating you. If you help me identify the model you are using, I can research the proper menu choices you will need to choose to select the correct features. There are many different directTV set-top boxes available.

My own home theater setup did the same thing, and my solution was to use component cables from the PVR instead of HDMI cables. It is too bad your blu-ray doesn't allow for this configuration.

My work-around until I realized that using different interconnects fixed the problem, was to turn the TV off and then on again whenever switching from HD to non-HD sources. This fixed my problem, maybe it will fix yours.

I hope that helps.

DLP TV starts to loose picture after 1 - 1/2 hours of use

This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. see which inputs have the problem to narrow it down. if only some inputs, suspect analog board. if everything flickers(all inputs and menu), suspect the dmd or engine. you can see the lamp shine out the back. if the lamp is flickering, suspect lamp or ballast.

Noise from Samsung rear projection DLP HD TV.

this noise is an indication of a bad color wheel. aa dlp uses a mechanical motor to spin a coloered segment disk. this turn the white light of the lamp into your colors of pictures. Now anything that moves will eventally break. the flickering is also an indication of a color wheel going bad. eventally this will cause the set to shut down. Color wheels can be replaced. i dont know your model so i am not sure of the exact replacement procedure. at my shop we charge average 250 for such a repair
