The screen image is dark or black

75% of the screen has gone very dim, and the rest of the screen is completely black. The portion of the screen that is black is the upper right. When you turn the TV on almost the entire right half of the screen is black and as it warms up it starts to provide more of an image, but it never gets to the point where the whole screen is not black.

Most likely a power supply failure, and or a failure on one of the other boards that is causing the shutdown.

The set will need service.

Colours have gone and picture quality became very dark. Now wont stay on for very long...will switch off after about 10 mins of viewing.

Unfortunately dim image and premature shut-off are normally due to a defective lamp assembly. I'd recommend removing the lamp and inspecting its condition. You'll notice black corrosion build up or a bubble is starting to form around the filament of the bulb if it is what's causing the dim image/premature shut-off.

I have a gateway laptop the screen is dark i cannot easily on the screen

Increase the brightness if back-lit is dim or if you are seeing negative kind of dark image then inverter circuit is gone in the LCD panel. It can be replaced with new one without much expense at any good laptop repair shop.

My screen is very dim, my pictures turn out clear and light but i cant see anything on the screen, even stored pictures. I have to put my memory card into a different camera or upload my pictures to see...

This problem is only related with back light in lcd screen and has nothing to do with ccd imager chip as explained by previous expert.
LCD screen is not getting enough voltage to lit back light to show its image thus you get darker image.
I suspect back light circuit section at main board got physical damage due to drop of camera. Visual check by qualified camera tech is needed to fix it.

Olympus Fe-4000 screen is completely black no image available

Stephan is exactly right. I have a FE-4000 and the LCD screen is most likely dead. As Stephan said, the screen should be replaced by a professional.

Cheers to all

Laptop screen illumination

The fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Dim screen

This could either be an inverter issue, or a backlight issue. Lamp replacement varies from very easy, seconds, to impossible without returning the entire panel to a service depot. There are some other possibilities (cables, motherboard problems controlling the backlight) but they are RARE. Inverters are relatively cheap (they are not "cheap", but they are still 80% less than a new LCD panel and 75% less than replacement backlight IF you could get it replaced). A new inverter is likely to be in the $50-$75 range. Any difference when working with batteries as opposed to AC? If so then it could be related to a power saving setting. But if your screen is completely dark, only visible with a light flashed at the screen, then that's not it. Good luck post a comment for the result
