I just bought the tomtom 130 s and I cannot get it to speak
I cannot get the one 130 s to sepak the street names? This was the reason I bought the more expensive one...how do I fix this feature? I just bought it yesterday and have tried everything
Re: I just bought the tomtom 130 s and I cannot get it to...
Be sure to select a voice that is a "Computer Voice" not a "recorded voice"
The GPS uses voice synthesis or "Phonems" to speak the text. not all voices support this.
Change voice in preferencs to fix this!

You have to select a computer generated voice - It has to say "whatever name comes with your GPS" followed by computer generated.<!-- from fixya rte -->
Not all sound files speak out the street names. If you would like to have the street names spoken, you need to select a voice that ends with computer. For example, the voice file selection: Simon, English UK, Computer will speak street names. But the voice file, Bonnie, English US, will not speak Street names. Dave, English US, computer will give you street names but Lori or Mandy, English US will not.Procedure to get the street names spoken: Tap on main screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on arrow. Tap on change voices. Tap (select) a voice that ends with computer. Tap select. Tap done till you reach the main screen.

Yes Nickarino is right.
When I switched on my new tom tom it gave me that option to speak street names and it vanished after selected a different voice.
I checked all manuals and web references in Tom Tom - none of them list it.
Like Nick said - what you need to do is swtich the voice type to SAMANTHA and it will show the option "Read Street Names Loudly".
I jumped on it and said yes ..!!!
Thanks Nick !!
Apparently only Samantha can speak street names. Mine didn't come with it, but when I updated my unit by connecting it to the computer at the tomtom site, Samantha was automatically downloaded. I chose her voice and it works.
It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
Greetings Seecar,
I had the same problem with the TomTom One. What you need to do is this:
When you select a voice preference you have to use a "computer" voice as it seems the "human" voice cannot pronounce the street names. I don't know if your model has the same choices but mine is set to "Samantha, English US"
Hope this helps
