There are other complaints all over the internet about this cameras' battery life. Are you using NiMH batteries or alkaline? If you used 8 you must be using alkaline. If they are heavy duty regular batteries you are using the wrong kind of battery. NiMh hold more power and last longer with a flatter power curve up till they are about done. Recahrging means not buying lots of batteries too. They should last for a long, long time; like a week or two at least. I had the same problem with my cell phone last week. Left the wall wart at home (by accident) . Battery went dead and I plugged in the spare. That battery went dead and I plugged the first one back in. It came up happy and ran all day. Next day I switched again. I figure I got two hard days out of "dead" Lithium Ion batteries.

Hi,
You can try switching over to 2500 mAh Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries and you will see a difference.
Digital cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary batteries.
If you still face the problem then the only solution will be to get it serviced as it can be a mechanical problem.
Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution

I had almost similar problems with my A10 from day one. The camera shuts down before the battery is depleted, most of the time while I was operating the zoomlens. I bought a new battery, but that didn't solve it. Later I decided to take it apart as a last option. As my suspicion was the zoomlens I took out two crews of the motor that operates it. Now the motor has a bit more space to move. It seemed to be too tight against the gears so it could cause an overload. After that it worked perfectly. I made pictures for hours without having the same fault again. Be carefull too make notes where all the tiny screws belong of the casing. And maybe it will be enough to just loosen the motorscrews, but leaving them out will not make it fall out of it's place. I hope someone can use this information.
Greetings, Ron Timmermans.

I just got mine to working again!!!!! (After about a year of not working.) I held down the green button while I was turning it on. Something happened... you could hear things going on. I did this several times and eventually, it worked.
Mine sounded like the shutter was getting stuck. I also sprayed a very small amount of wd40 on the lens rings, being careful not to get it on the lens itself.
