Waterco 1hp Supatuf pump, runs 5-10 minutes, then the electric will kick off and the pump shut down. I can wait a few minutes and it will start right up, but it does the same thing and shuts off, HELP

I have a Waterco Supa Tuf pump 1 hp, Model: 241100, on my pool, and it has been working fine for the last 2 years. Starting last week when I turn the pump on it will run only 5-10 minutes, then kick the breaker off, and shut down. I can start it up again and it will run 5-10 minutes and do the same thing. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what was the solution to correct??

SOURCE: Crash!!

Could be Heat, sounds like the system is shutting down to protect the processor. Let it sit shut down over night and see if it runs longer when it's cooled down. Is the fan running?

SOURCE: Pump trips breaker

If the seals are damaged, water will leak into motor section and cause GFI to trip and yet the pump will seem that it is running fine if plugged into a non-GFI receptacle

SOURCE: My pool pump is 2 months old. It is a Hayward 1hp

The capacitor is probably bad. It's under the cover on the side of the motor, Take a look and smell it. A motor shop has them, or Grainger

SOURCE: new hayward 1 HP super pump runs 1 or 2 seconds,

Check that the motor is set for the proper voltage. They are usually factory connected for 230V and if you have a 115V line feeding it the motor will overheat and cycle the overload as you describe.

SOURCE: Pool pump starts & stops on its own outside of programmed run

There are several potential problems:

  • freeze protection circuit causing pump to start - could be a bad outside air temperature sensor.
  • It is possible the new relay is bad.
  • There could be a short in the control wires to the relay
  • old programming shadow stuck in memory (not likely since you changed the boards)
Yes, the starting and stopping can harm your pump.

Testimonial: "The problem has been fixed----it was a bad outside air temperature sensor. Thanks for your help."

Car runs in neutral, when i put it in drive, the car runs 1.5 or 2 blocks and shuts down. i wait 2 minutes and it start right up and does the same again

Hopefully, a transmission shop is only a few shut downs away. You need it checked for a mechanical problem or an electrical problem. An electrical fix is a lot cheaper than a rebuilt transmission, hundreds less., in fact.

Pool Pump Runs Intermittently (~10 seconds on, ~1 minute off)

Need more info. What is the voltage at the pump? What voltage is the pump wired for? Sounds like your pump is shutting down from heat thru a safety. If the voltage is wrong the pump will heat up very quickly and a thermal switch will cut out, it will then cool off and try again. Get the readings at the motor connections NOT the breaker.

Pump runs for a few minutes becomes hot and stops then starts again

Pump motor is overheating or drawing too much current and the safety is shutting the motor down. After a period, it automatically kicks back in (quite common). Replace motor (and safety which probably comes with, or is actually contained inside motor).

Pool pump shuts off after a couple of minutes and seems to be hot

You problem could be one of several things. First, pumps have a thermal protection switch that shuts the pump down when overheated. You could have rust after only one season that overheats the pump and it shuts down. The switch could be bad. There could be an electrical issue when running it on a long cord of the wrong gauge. Plug the pump into an outlet without extension cord and see if it makes a difference.

I have a Fisher & Paykel DG08 gas dryer that will get hot and shut down after 5 minutes. It will not start if you try hitting the start button right away, but will if you wait a few minutes. It did...

The thermal overload is bad and will need to be replaced,This is there to prvent overheating and when it fails and overheating happens,a secondary overload kicks in to prevent a fire.

Dryer will run for about 20 minutes then it cuts off.

Are you able to restart the Amana dryer right back up when it shuts down? If you can, there is a short issue. If you have to wait a few minutes and you might even hear a faint click, then it will start, your motor needs replaced.....If Ic an help further, I am here.....
